The Jake INT

Let's first start this out with stats......do any of you know what % a 4th down and 10 is completed in the NFL?

About 10% of the time.

So with 4th and 10 here is what can happen:

1. Sack and possession ends about 8 yards behind line of scrimmage.

2. Incomplete, possession ends at line of scrimmage.

3. Fumble, end of possession often behind line of scrimmage.

4. interception, end of possession.

Prolly other variables but whatever. By the time we got to that 4th and 10 situation we were 90% chance to fail on the play.

Jake threw the pass within a foot or two of completion to one of the best receivers in the league.

The end result was that Atlanta ended up getting the ball deep in their endzone. Farther back than if we had gotten sacked, an incomplete pass, or had fumbled the ball.

This is no different than when a team launches the ball up 40 yards on 3rd and long and it gets intercepted. 3rd and longs have a long chance of getting converted as well. So that 3rd and long bomb that gets intercepted is the same as us not converting the down and punting it.

That 4th and 10 had a 10% chance of ending well for the Panthers. Given what happened it was the 2nd best option because ATL ended up getting the ball farther back from the line of scrimmage than it would have been if it was an incompletion and change of possession.

but please, carry on with your blaming the game on Jake on a 4th and 10 when the defense knows you're going to pass.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
