Life in the Embers...

So, the past several years, I have been using some of what little free time I get to world-build for a novel (or a set of them) that I plan to pen one day... I haven't really begun the whole writing process, but have been pulling all my ideas together into a central location. I'm adding bits and pieces as I go, in order to eventually have my ammunition stockpiled in preparation of the day I begin my actual literary battle.

The project is tentatively titled Life in the Embers. The thematic behind the novel (or likely the series) is that, no matter how bad things seem to get, there always remains at least a very small chance that things will change, and good things will come out of the ashes.

Maybe it is my personality and general optimism presenting itself... Who knows? But, enough about the non-Panther background of why I titled this topic such...

Tomorrow will mark the dawn of a new season for our beloved team. We face a familiar opponent. At possibly the highest point in our franchise, this was the team that struck us back down to nothing. We had but one blemish on the entire season up until that fateful evening in February.

As Panthers fans, we have all been here before. The sting of a loss... the disappointing season...

That loss stung a lot. But, as fans, we all maintain those embers... those little pieces of fire inside of us waiting to be ignited, given the right amount of fuel or the shifting of the wind.

Our team has that fire too... You can see it in our guys' eyes when they are in the heat of battle. We need to keep that fire. We need to nurture it. We need to add that fuel. We need to poke around a bit every now and then to allow fresh air to get in there and heat things up.

Sure, their may be a rainstorm that passes through every now and then. But, those blow over.

Tomorrow night will be huge for us and the Panthers. We want, with every speck of our being, to come out of this battle victorious.

Back in February, everything we had accomplished up until the clock struck zero in that last game was rendered into ash.

What the Broncos and plenty of other people out there didn't realize was that there was still life in the embers... Our spark had NOT been extinguished.

So long as there is life in the embers, the flames that are the Carolina Panthers will not be extinguished. We are about to roar to flames again, and engulf all who stand in our path.

Go Panthers. Beat Denver.

Life is a fickle bitch boy.

I went from thinking my team would win the Super Bowl and that my NBA team would repeat as champs, to watching my football team choke followed by my NBA team choking even worse.

Please beat the Broncos team. Please.

I was blue ball'ed the same way
