i agree with the op. i would still want a coach who can adapt that is the major issue. fox refuses to adapt to the times. he keeps thinking if he does what won in 2003 it will work for 2009 and it doesnt the nfl goes in cycles and he has to adjust to it.

Starting to wonder if Tomlin isn't what we thought he was, and Cowher is what I thought he wasn't.

I was always under the impression that "The Steeler Way" is what made them successful all of these years, and not Cowher. Maybe my assessment was off base.

Also starting to wonder is LeBeau is getting figured out by some the O coordinators in the league.

Lebeau was Cowher's Defensive Coordinator only 5 of Cowher's 15 years in Pittsburgh. Anyone who thinks Lebeau made Cowher is mistaken.

Agreed. I think this is one of the big selling points for Cowher. People love his demeanor, charisma and animated persona as opposed to Fox who says little to nothing (and does so in a boring manner).

I don't give an airborne rodent's rectum whether a coach is entertaining or interesting as long as he wins.

The ironic thing is that, with Cowher, you're getting pretty much the exact same coaching philosophy as John Fox, except that he runs a 3-4 defense and yells at players on the sidelines instead of clapping and trying to pump them back up after a mistake. It's still going to be all about running the ball and playing good defense. I hope everybody realises that.

Oh come on now, you know that safety is WAY more important than LT or WLB or SLB or LG (since he in now LT). Also, don't even say that the 3 we lost without Harris is like Pitt without Troy because we had Teal back there and he is WAY better than any backup Pitt has.

Tomlin definitly gets a free pass for being without Troy and losing 5 in a row.

So you're saying you didn't think Tomlin was a great coach prior to this losing streak? Are you saying his losses aren't attributable to injured players?

You're right, it is laughable. Like I said before, it's easy to sit back and wait for other to make statements and observations and then you attack or mock them for it when you constantly ride the fence or just refrain from clearly expressing your own opinion.

I made this thread before the Cleveland game. The Oakland and KC losses were horrific, but again, that doesn't reflect on Tomlin IMO.

You're right, Polamalu wouldn't have stepped out on the field and played QB, WR, or RB... But, he did give them extra possessions or just straight up scored on his own from the defensive side... So, you can't just shrug his absence off as if he's just another player. The stats speak for themselves, he's a difference maker.

And the injuries we suffered to key players started about mid-way through the season. Polamalu was injured in the first week and has been out a majority of the season, 2-6 without him now. Our struggles haven't been due to injury, our struggles have been due to an inept coach refusing to bench a one-man demolition crew in Jake.

I guess Billy in New England is the gold standard of coaching with his archives of spy footage... Laughable indeed.

Good grief, Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl winning team with a great defense and a good young QB. John Fox took over the worst team in the league with one of the worst starting QB's and worst defense in the league, and had to build it back up from scratch. So regardless of what happens to Fox after this season, he is still proven as much or more than Tomlin has, IMO. I couldn't care less about what either one of them says to the media, because words mean nothing in the NFL.

Tomlins decisions to not aggressively upgrade his OL are having a direct impact on the Steelers losing. Which is worse than Fox choosing to not upgrade over Jake. Jake had 2 or 3 really bad games last year the Steelers OL sucked all year long but the team was able to win despite it. Any HC should have seen this coming.

Well, I don't know how you can accuse Fox on consistently failing, since he took a team from 1-15 to a Super Bowl in two years and then followed it up with another NFCCG appearance a couple of years later, but it is true that he hasn't had back to back winning seasons, although this one is not over yet.

The comparison is apples and oranges anyway though, since Tomlin inherited a Corvette and Fox inherited a Pinto. If anything, Tomlin should be held to a much higher standard instead of getting a pass just because he made aggressive statements to the media.

I probably can't speak for everyone but I don't think anyone is trying to say Fox should be let off the hook for our 0-3 start. I just think that it is stupid to sit there and say "Mike Tomlin is a great coach who would be good for this team.", when he has dropped 5 in a row. At the same time you are calling for Fox's head.

Also we had lost Harris and Kemo to start the season. Plus McCown, whom I think if he had not been on IR Fox would have pulled the trigger on Jake much sooner.

Just trying to keep it realistic.
