Market for Vick low because "his skills have eroded"

Michael Vick so far has proven to be a relatively inaccurate passer. Vick has also made quite a few poor footbal decisions from numerous intentional groundings to easily picked interceptions, even in 2-minute plays that cost the Falcons trips to the playoffs.

However, in his prime, Vick was one of the fastest players in the NFL, and that is what made him a decent Quarterback. Defenders did not know whether to pursue him, or let him run to them. Those who were burned attempting to pursue him, would give him 5 seconds, an football eternity, to scramble around looking for an open man. Often times, his target would be Algernon Crumpler who pulled in many errant Vick passes, as he'd be single covered by the Sam while the the other LB's tried to trap or contain Vick.

During the Vick era, the Falcons really had no reason to spend big money on a receiver, and they didn't. The WR pass was only used when defenses stacked the run.

But in his last season before the conviction, Vick suffered some minor injury to his legs or feet. I don't recall what it was. Whatever it was, it appeared to permanently slow him just a small fraction. But that small fraction was all it took to make Vick's speed and acceleration unexceptional compared to the better corners and safeties. From that point on, pursuing Vick past the line of scrimmage was a viable option.

Without the truly elite speed, his poor accuracy became relevant.

If Vick wants to prove his value, he must prove that he has elite speed and acceleration again. If he cannot physically do that, then he has no NFL value anymore.

    • That's a very incorrect statement right off the bat, coaches get fired for winning ugly all the time.  Every coach of a playoff team that then gets fired, got fired because they won ugly and didn't improve their players enough to win in the postseason. Guys like Andy Reid have been fired for "winning ugly" like you said, because they kept winning in spite of the improvement of their players. Also, "this is a fanbase starved for wins" is a statement I also don't agree with, I'm not "starved for wins", I'm "starved for a winning and contending franchise" which are two VERY different things. If the team and fans just want to win some games, then that's a loser mentality, sorry, but it is.  We should want to contend, not win a handful of games.  Every time this comes up I point back to the Lions the last 5 years or so.  They were losing games but improving every week while doing so a few years back.  THAT is how you improve as a franchise and move the needle towards contending, not winning games ugly.
    • Good lord. I don’t think I have ever seen a hole that open.
    • this is true.  But NFL Ss and defenses are actively taking that away and playing to take them away vs most teams.  The problem thus far in BY's career......is they are cheating and not respecting the deep game which makes the smaller/mid range game harder to pull off.  and Dallas is an anomaly game.  using those random games that run counter to vast work......doesn't really change the discussion/issues in Carolina.  Bryce Young took the shots this week because they were not just NFL open but college open.    Wide open dudes downfield that really were coverage busts/issues.
