NFC South team needs

“Carolina Panthers

Quarterbacks: The Panthers will head into the 2010 season with Matt Moore as the clear starter, barring another free-agent signing or trade. Carolina released QB Jake Delhomme. The team likely will add a veteran player to back up Moore.

Running backs: They added depth behind DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart by drafting Mike Goodson last year, so this position won't be a priority. Carolina also drafted its fullback of the future, Tony Fiammetta, in 2009, and cut Brad Hoover in March.

Receivers: This has long been a position of need for the Panthers. Muhsin Muhammad is an unrestricted free agent. He turns 37 in May and Carolina might be ready to move on. Finding a talented complement for Steve Smith could boost the passing game.

Offensive line: Carolina could use more depth throughout the offensive line, particularly at guard and center. ORG Keydrick Vincent is an unrestricted free agent and most likely will be allowed to depart.

Defensive line: This position is one they will need to address this offseason. While the Panthers re-signed DE Tyler Brayton, Peppers has moved on to Chicago. Depth at tackle is also a concern after the release of Maake Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis.

Linebackers: Weak-side 'backer would become a need if RFA Thomas Davis, who is recovering from a torn ACL departed, but he likely will be re-signed.

Defensive backs: The Panthers aren't expected to alter their collection of corners and safeties much this offseason. Starting CB Richard Marshall is a restricted free agent, but he has been tendered.

Special teams: Changes aren't anticipated at punter or kicker, but Carolina's special-teams units were pretty poor last season, so some new blood on coverage units and at returner would be no surprise.

Summary: Figuring what to do at defensive end in the post-Peppers era will consume the Panthers in the coming months, but finding a threat to pair with Steve Smith at receiver is major need as well.”

The remaining 3 NFCS teams are listed as well.

    • It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.
    • And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited
    • Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
