Bobcats owner Jordan said "NO!" to Iverson

Allen Iverson had a pretty rough season, starting things off miserably with the Memphis Grizzlies and then signing on to return to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he left the team only a few months later due to the sickness of his daughter and troubles at home. His wife ended up filing for divorce and sought custody for their five kids and it was reported that Iverson had some serious drinking and gambling problems.

Somewhere in there Larry Brown apparently told Michael Jordan that he wanted to bring Iverson in to be part of the Charlotte Bobcats. One presumes this was before Iverson's off-court problems were known and Brown was thinking it would be nice to have a guard around who ended the season with an average of 13.8 points per game on an average of 30.9 minutes per game.

Michael Jordan apparently was the one to put a stop to Brown's plans. Jordan supposedly told Brown it wasn't going to happen. "We had a short conversation about him," Jordan told the Observer.

So don't go thinking Larry gets whatever he wants.

As Ive pointed out in the past, if you're gonna have Larry Brown in your front office, you need people who are willing to tell him "no" sometimes. Im glad our owner said "no" to this. AI in Charlotte would've been a HUGE disaster and chances are Jax would not be here now if we made a move for him. LB has done wonders for this team's personnel, but Mike & Rod Higgins deserve alot of credit too.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
