As an out-of-market fan for both my NFL and MLB teams (Panthers and Braves) I have directv so that I can see all of the games. One of the cool things about MLB extra innings is that I get both teams broadcasts of every game.

I'd say I watch the Atlanta broadcast 75% of the time. However, a lot of the games on Peachtree TV are not availlable in HD on Directv, and I'll be damned if I ever watch something in non-HD again. So, I watch the opposing teams broadcasts a fair amount of the time. It's always interesting to hear the different styles of calling a game.

After watching all three Rays vs Braves games listening to the Tamba crew, I must say I was thoroughly impressed and they call an excellent game. Dewayne Staats and Brian Anderson, that is.

Who do you guys think has the best broadcasters? Worst?

Well I have the MASN networks, so I watch the Nats and Orioles broadcasts. I can say this; I love the Nationals team of Rob Dibble and Bob Carpenter. They are homers to a spectacular degree, which I love. Carpenter is one of the best play-by-play guys I have ever heard. He's not a corpse like so many other pbp guys, he can inject commentary and humor into his calls a la Bob Uecker. And Dibble is far and away the best color man in baseball. First, he is hilarious. His commentary is the best part of watching the ball game. But he is also very, very smart, especially when it comes to pitching. he has the know how of a former pitcher, and has the verbal ability to clearly explain what's going on to amateurs. Has a very no-BS sensibility towards our pitchers; almost like a stern father; he'll chastise our pitchers when they're nibbling around the strike zone against a pitcher hiting in the hundreds, and offers very good insights on what pitch will come next based on the count and the hitter. I have learned so much about the pitching game from hearing him call; I have a much better understanding and appreciation of the game just from hearing his call, and that's the sign of a good color man. Together, the two have such great chemistry, and the broadcast really suffers when one is missing and has a fill-in. Great team.

On the bad side, when we played our beltway series and the Orioles team was callin the game, they bored me to tears. And whoever was calling for ESPN on Sunday sucked; sounded like a former ball player.

And I hate having to listen to Skip Caray, he's nowhere even close to the announcer his father and grandfather were.

Anytime you get to listen to Vin Scully or Bob Uecker is a treat, though.

I feel like Skip has regressed. I used to not mind his cheesiness and thought he still called an intelligent game and his cringe inducing cheese was humorous. Now i just find him to be annoying. I feel like he's trying too hard. I kinda get the feeling he may have become an alcoholic after his dad died, just a hunch. He always looks greasy and disheveled now.

Anyways, I was disappointed when Sciambi left. I thought him and Simpson did a pretty good job. At first I thought Sciambi was a douche but that was pretty much just based on his looks. After listening to some games, not only did he know his poo and almost never make a mistake, I could also appreciate that we was young enough to relate to and understand the culture of my generation.

Uecker has lost a lot of it, but he's still awesome to hear call a game. One of the only times i'll listen to the opposing team's broadcast is if Cincy is playing the Brewers.

I like the team of Marty Brenneman (not Thom) and The Cowboy Jeff Brantley. Radio announcers still have the tv boys beat.

I second the Dibble/Carpenter team. I can see why some people wouldn't like them but I love to hear them call a game. Really keep things interesting and Dibble's homorism is hilarious. I think their knowledge is highly underated also.

Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone

You're being sarcastic, right?

Hawk Harrelson is the worst broadcaster I've ever heard. Can't stand him. Steve Stone is a major improvement over Darrin Jackson though.

The Hawk Harrelson/Darrin Jackson combo was the epitome of bush league. They are the biggest homers to ever put on a headset. It's fine to pull for the home team, in fact, they should pull for the home team. But the White Sox crew does it with as little class and professionalism as possible.

I remember a game a few years back where the ChiSox lost to a walk off, after blowing a good size lead. Harrelson wouldn't even call the play. He didn't say "Home-run", didn't mention the players name, didn't say the score of the game, didn't mention who the WP and LP were. Just went dead silent for about 15 seconds and then awkwardly cut to commercial. They regularly will just not call plays that are bad for the white sox. So often, when something bad happens they just go silent. It's ridiculous.

They will continually say the Umps made a bad call after replay clearly shows the call was correct and vice versa.

And nothing is worse than "He gone!" I cringe everytime I have to hear it.

      I gave you a full breakdown and examples from last year as to why I think it's unfair to expect 1k from T-Mac this year if everyone stays healthy. But the TLDR version is we will have 4 legitimately good WRs next year, most rookies who get to 1,000 yards don't have any others on the team with them let alone 3 others, it will be hard for him to put up 1k with out the others being injured or falling short of expectations themselves, but in 2026 without Thielen it's different.

      Last year Thielen had 615 yards in 10 games (had more ypg than his 1k season in 23).  XL had 497 in 16 games with tons of drops and Coker had 478 in 11. They also only had only 192 of our 518 targets to get those numbers. So if Thielen has 1,000 yards again, XL and Coker each improve to say 600 yards each, and T-Mac comes in at 800 yards, you're going to say that's not good enough?  Especially if he ends up with close to, if not getting to, double digit TD's like I think he will, as he's going to be a red zone monster for Bryce? Because if that's the breakdown of just the Top 4 and Bryce plays all 17 games, he's going to be pushing a 4,000 yard season as the TEs, RBs, and other WRs will probably add up to 750-1k yards as well, and I think that would be far more than anyone here could be expecting of him this season. Last year the Giants only had 2 players with more than 331 yards besides Nabers and they were 699 and 573 while Nabers "only" had 1,200 yards (granted in 15 games).  While the Jags second leading receiving was a TE with 411 yards and BTJ also "only" had 1,282 but in all 17 games. If everyone stays healthy and XL/Coker have improved, I think Bryce is going to spread the ball around rather than focus on T-Mac in a way that most of the 1k rookies have been able to get. Again I point to MHJ and the Cardinals last year. They had 3,859 yards receiving.   McBride had 1,146, MHJ had 885, then their 3rd and 4th in rec yards were 548 and 414. Take the 146 and 85 that McBride/MHJ had over my example for our guys and give them to the other two and they get to 7 yards shy of the 600 I'm using for XL/Coker, while the rest of the team added up to 866 yards. So, if you expect T-Mac to get to 1k, where are you taking those yards from? if anything, XL and Coker each getting 600 yards seems like a low projection, so they wouldn't come from there. Maybe they come from Thielen now that we have T-Mac as the true #1.  But I think if anything, having T-Mac draw attention will just make it easier for Thielen to get open and him and Bryce have great chemistry already, he's not going to stop throwing his way if he can pick up easy chunks of yards there. So maybe they come from the RBs, TEs, other WRs, but it's I think a very fair example to show why expecting 1,000 yards if everyone stays healthy isn't necessarily fair to him. It's also why I said I'd then expect at least 1,200 yards in 2026, as once Thielen leave and all 3 of T-Mac/XL/Coker get better, they absorb that 1,000 yards Thielen leaves behind with T-Mac probably taking close to half of it and the other two splitting up the other half.
