Free Agency Decisions

Please be gentle, this is my first post here. I've lurked here for some time.

I fully understand JR's desire to prepare for the coming lockout and be "economical" with the current player salaries. Having said that, their decision to not resign Keydrick Vincent seems to have not worked out well, based on watching the Giants game and the 4 preseason games. With average players on the right side of the line (Bernadeau and Schwartz) instead of Vincent and Otah, we can see that the holes that were there for 34 and 28 are just not as large or frequent. A quick look on the interweb shows that Vincent was signed for a 2 year deal with only $2 million guaranteed and another $2.5 million in incentives. MM still made too many mistakes, but a more effective running game would have helped protect MM and allowed the wideouts more room to operate.

Some economical signings at RG and WR (Houshmanzedah) would have made a fair difference in this game. My guess is that these two could have been had for about $1 million apiece.

I am interested to see Clausen, since I believe he's currently at Moore's level (pre-concussion) right now with lots of room for improvement. Also, I wonder if it might be a good idea to put Wharton out at RT and move the Schwartz and Bernadeu to the guard spots.

Anyway, let the flaming begin!

You're idea for Wharton is interesting, although I Bernadeau is already playing G if I'm not mistaken.

As far as WR, I still have no idea why we haven't done anything to address it outside of the draft. I've mentioned Kevin Curtis several times, who is still available. But, he's a scrub compared to Housh, Boldin, Marshall, V. Jackson, etc. Sad thing is, a scrub is better than anything we have from #2 down.

As far as addressing it now, nothing we can do. I believe the staff has decided to stick with what we have and hope this year speeds up their development. No one is coming to save us.
