Lovie Smith: "Julius Peppers didn't do a good enough job"

5 games and 2 sacks....yea, that is about right.

On pace for a 6 sack performance this season.

Where are all of the people predicting that he would have a monster season.

Bears fans are just getting a taste of his inconsistent and over-rated play.

Lovie Smith won't let Peppers reach his full potential.

I would love to know the question that prompted that response. (I'm seriously thinking ESPN is in my future, working very hard to ask leading questions to elicit responses, then refusing to print the question that got said response.) Probably something to the effect of:

"Julius Peppers only had two tackles today, yet he's the highest paid player on our defense. Did his lack of production contribute to the loss?"

How's my aim?

Julius Peppers is new to this tradition. So he sat at his locker for a long time, still cloaked in game armor, pondering what had happened and why. When he finally spoke, he said this:

"We play defense. It's not our job to put points on the board. We played well today, the defense. That's obvious. Everybody can see that. Offense, not so well. But there are times when we're not going to play well and they're going to play well. It's that type of league. Could we have done more on defense? Probably."

Another 2 tackle performance for Peppers today, but he had time to call out the offense. That's 2 sacks and 16 tackles for the year. Impressive.
