Santa's Bad Day

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, they made lots of mistakes..and Santa began to feel a distinct Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa up even more.

Seeking a little peace and quiet, he went to harness the reindeer..only to find that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

As he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the carefully packed toys were scattered in the snow.

Frustrated, Santa went into the house for a restoring cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. He went to the cupboard and discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug (Mrs Santa's favorite), and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.

When he went to get the broom he found the mice had eaten all the straw off the sweeping end. He was tearing at his great white beard in sheer frustration...

...and just then the doorbell rang, but Santa ignored it in his annoyance. It rang again, and again, until a much irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open....and there stood a sweet little angel holding a great big Christmas tree and wearing a huge smile.

The angel said - very, very cheerfully - 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this such a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree I have bought especially for you. Now, where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel mounted so firmly on top of the Christmas tree.

Not a lot of people know this.
