How about you hand the whole madden franchise over to 2k sports and they fix all your problems for you? Seriously, NFL 2k5 is STILL the best football game out there.

Yeah, and I'll second the crap out of that. Can you imagine if they had been able to keep going and pump out games? EA has had the ESPN license for how many years now? And nothing like the Sportscenter highlights we had. EA just introduced gang tackling? WOW! NFL2K did that how many years ago? Even the graphics on NFL2K hold up as good as those crappy first Xbox360 games (which, to be honest, were still current gen)

To just imagine what level of a football video game we could be playing right now...

I weep like a schoolgirl when I think about it.

srsly, 2k's franchises were/are better for everything except hockey where EA has put out some great games over the past couple of years.

I think you guys are really praising the 2k series just because it's gone. Yes, I had 2k5 and loved it. The commentating (although Madden 09 is a nice jump with Collinsworth), the end-zone celebrations, the animations, the half-time presentation were all great. The game still suffered from some pretty stupid parts. The first-person camera, dumb celebrity tie-in's, idiotic fake teams, some loopy AI at times, an underwhelming franchise mode, and boring commentating by Peter O'Keefe. But at $20, it was certainly a steal.

What I do wish for is a non-exclusive license. I am a big-time believer in capitalism. The competition between EA and 2k Sports would have made for some great development for both parties. They would have eventually stolen from each other and pushed for the latest tweaks to gameplay and presentation. It could have ended up in a great battle each year between what company released the most realistic game with the most features.

But alas, that died. I'm not a fan-boy of 2k5, but I do agree that the whole single-developer license is just STUPID for business. Monopolies suck.

The 2K series is not just praised because it's gone. Not only was it a better game than Madden in 2005, it's still a better game than Madden in 2009. If you don't see that, you're either blind, or have poor taste. If it's the latter, I envy you. There's a reason why it's still updated year after year by users to keep the game in date.

The only EA Sports titles that are worth a damn anymore are FIFA and NHL
