Tender Kalil and Johnson?

wow...

So some people continue to think the CHARLES JOHNSON and RYAN KALIL are more valuable players than DWill...

s...m...h...

How are they not? Since all three of them are around the same level of talent for their respective positions, it comes down to the value of the specific postion, (a talented Center and DE are more valuable and scarce then a Running back)

And who we have to replace them (Stewart has shown to be a very talented replacement, which can't be said for the players behind Kali and Johnson).

Johnson will want to be in this system. It is tailor made for him to put up big numbers. Williams will likely be here as well. This is a much better situation than one where he will be the feature back and get overused and injured. Plus with his injury history right now I doubt people are going to be throwing money at him right now. He has played 19 games in the past 2 years. And he missed 10 games in 2010. Anyone think he gets huge pay day right now??

DW may see the bright lights and someone may throw some ridiculous money at him. We are in good shape to re-sign him (financially) and then shop him. Here is a long shot: We could have crippled his ability to get a long-term, lucrative second contract by tagging him. At 29, he would not get a good offer, IMO. I expect there is an agreement. Maybe the Panthers told him, "We will not tag you, and we will give a good contract (one that the Panthers can get out of at year's end if necessary, like the Donovan McNabb deal). We will then shop you for a trade, and you can refuse the deal if it is a bad situation. Solidifying your contract's second, third, and fourth years can be part of the agreement."

Basically, "We will not tag you if you let us sign you and trade you to a team you like." If no agreement is reached by the end of 2011, DW will just be cut. Does that make sense to anyone?

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
