My Monday Training Camp Experience

I haven't had time to type this up the past two days, with work and all. But I wanted to give you a run down of what I, as a fan, experienced Monday.

Me and my brother got together and made a massive sign out of poster board saying "Go Cam Newton #1" in big bold blue and black sharpy. I was pimped out in my authentic Beason jersey, mirror shades, black cap, and my brother was in a Panther T-shirt, with a blue cap. We had a nice 2 hour drive down 85 to spartanburg. Chatting it up about various things we hoped to see at practice.

When we arrived we were about an hour early (5:00) and about a quarter til 6 the players started coming out and the scrubs started to sign autographs. My brother wanted everyones signature, but I, having limited space on my autograph ball, held my standards high. Sure enough coach RR started signing, and I got his signature. I then asked him about Cam Newton's progress, and he said "so far so good". I then went on to get Tony Pike's auto, just because I have a feeling he will be good at some point in the NFL. He's super tall and really skinny.

Well, when the real players came out onto the field. The whole crowd was quiet, well, all except for me. First I screamed at Mike Goodson "GO MIKE!!!!" loud as could be, I pointed at him, and he gave me the peace sign! :D Then I screamed at Charles Godfrey, well, just because I was excited, he just kinda looked at me.

But when Cam Newton came out, I had my brother hold up the giant sign and I screamed "GO CAM!!! WOOOHOOO! CAM NEWTON! LETS GO BABY! WOOOHOO!" He bent over laughing while walking onto the field and pointing at me, I yelled "I WILL SEE YOU AFTER PRACTICE!" and he yelled back "No, I will see you after practice!" So it was settled. Big sig after practice.

Then here came Smitty and I did the same thing for him, and he just casually said "see ya after practice". Where's the energy? Well I went on to do the same thing to DWill and Greg Olsen. No emotion in them. :nonod:

Well about 10 minutes into practice it started to downpour, and they went inside, Cam Newton, carrying 3 helmets, leaped onto the golf cart with the other QB's and they shipped up to the gym to do an inside practice for the rest of the night. Shocked and with a glimir of hope, I waited the storm out with a few other fans and spent another 2 hours infront of the practice facility hoping they would come out and at least give me an autograph or something. Never happened. I started to sneak into the facility to see whats going on and then chickened out after seeing some staff, but can you really blame me? And I wasted half a tank of gas on a 4 hour round trip to SC for 10 minutes of action. It wasn't all to bad though.

In conclusion, I've learned a valuable lesson, check the weather before making day trips.

      I think the book has been fairly written on Darnold, and by and large stays true. He can be rattled by pressure, and will lose his composure. If a team can get to him and have something go wrong in the plan, the mistakes and errors will pile up. Rams have a better offense, Seahawks sport a better defense. Should be a good 1.

      Not a defense of him...an understanding of the problem. (something you seem to be lacking right now) 🙄 Bryce in a Canales offense is not an example of a stylistic mismatch, but I can give you one if that helps. When he was playing for the Panthers, Cam Newton sat under OC's running Coryell type offenses. Newton had a big arm and was a strong runner. He fit into that sort of attack very well. Then he goes to New England, where at the time they were running an Earhardt-Perkins system (similar to WCO In a lot of what they do but very different terminology). The Patriot offenses back then were heavily based on timing and rhythm style passing, not something that Newton was especially well suited for. So he washed out at New England, not because he had poor ability (his abilities had been on display here on a regular basis) but because he didn't fit what they wanted to do with their offense. I always go back to Jeff Garcia as one of the prime examples of this issue. Garcia in a WCO looked like a world beater. Put him in any other scheme though...yikes!  So again, Young's issues here have nothing to do with any failure to mesh with Canales. Hell, is say Canales has actually done pretty well at adapting his system to who he has rather than trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Again, it doesn't take an elite level of football knowledge to get this. It's pretty basic. But if you're not even capable of understanding what the real problem is, how are you going to know you to find the right solution? 🤔
