I am Scared

I thought The Golden Calf of Bristol was 2 for 8 for 69 Yards. Which scares me because how can we throw for 212 yards and lose and Denver throw 2 complete passes all day and win. The Golden Calf of Bristol is averaging 10 completions a game, and 6 completions a game when they win. Is our team that bad?

One day people will figure out why the best offenses are ranked by efficiency not yards or attempts. The Golden Calf of Bristol was the most efficient QB in the NFL today 2 completed passes = win. ;)

But to answer your question. Yes we really are that bad. Offenses are best ranked by total scoring efficiency and we are ranked 25th: http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/yards-per-point

One of the worst offenses in the NFL. We get a lot of yards but we don't score enough points. Our defense is now ranked 20th, so it's now officially quite a bit better than our offense.

An average offense travels 14.2 yards to get 1 point. 100 yards/ 7 points

We have to travel almost 19 yards for the same point, and this doesn't even count turnovers. So when you factor that in, we're no better than a team like Indianapolis. Deceiving when you watch them on the field, but very true, and very real. They are incredibly inefficient.

Think of it as an average offense plays on a 100 yard long football field.

But then when our offense gets on, their field is 133 yards long on each drive. So the extra yards we get means nothing to make us better. We need them just to be average at scoring points.

So if a game has 4 scoring TD drives from each team, our offense needs an additional(133) yards to keep up with just an average offense and also score 4 touchdowns.

A very efficient offense like Green Bay or San Francisco they only travel 12 yards for the same point.

So their field is usually only 84 yards long. Imagine what happens then when we face one of these guys.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
