Well, in another thread people were wondering about how a fellow poster came up with his name. Then that got others to thinking about what the hell all of our screennames mean. So go ahead, spill your innermost secrets. At least, tell us how your screenname came to be.

Scrumtrilescent: Will Ferrell, before making crappy movies like Kicking and Screaming and Bewitched, was one of the only saving graces of SNL. One of his most infamous impersonations was James Lipton, the Actor's Studio man. In one skit, Lipton/Ferrell was interviewing Charles Nelson Reilly and this crept up:

...Nor, indeed, was the world.. nor history.. nor anything that the human eye has ever captured. When one thinks of CNR, one's mind goes right to Match Game. That show was delightful. No. No. It was brilliant. No, no, no, no. There is no word to describe its perfection, so I am forced to make one up. And I'm going to do so right now. Scrumtrilescent...You are a modern master. Already a huge success on Broadway, you easily crossed over into film. In 1984, you portrayed Don Don Canneloni.. in Cannonball Run 2. A performance so scrumtrilescent, I can barely move...I am born anew in your genius...I am not alone in thinking that you make Gandhi look like a child pornographer. For Inside the Actor's Studio.. I'm James Lipton.

Here is mine copied from the other thread (its sort of lame...but I've used the same screen name in many places since I was first on the internet)

w2 -- my initials are ww and I was called "w squared" by a person a long time ago and sort of liked it.

80 -- the year I was born

sax -- I was very into the saxophone for a long time. Not so much anymore, but I still remember it fondly.

If I'd known I would post so much here, I would have thought of a better name...but oh well.

You can call me Sax for short, if you prefer.

I was born on a distant planet and given this name by my creator. I came to this earth in a phantom prison that was destroyed by a nuclear bomb. My goal now is to conquer the world and have mankind serve me. I also like long walks on the beach, lasagna, and a good single malt scotch.

Mine's boring. The very first message board I joined was about 4 years ago, and it was the official panthers message board. I joined it first just intending to read - and joined using my real name - didn't know any better. It was months before I ever posted, and by then I had figured out that I shouldn't use my real name. I put about a minute of thought into it because I wanted to post something then, rejoined using Go To Girl because they're always talking about who the Go To Guy is regarding receivers and I wanted something football related. I've kept it because people know me now through the many, many message boards I've been on. I shorten it to GTG often.

Cooter = Something I love.

Actually Cooter from the Dukes of Hazzard is a good ol boy and I admire im.

I remember when you and a whole bunch of other huddlers changed their names all at the same time. I'm convinced you all did it to confuse me, but now I can't even remember what the old names were - at least some of them.

Well mine is actually a cross between several things. Spirit was the name of my faithfull companion and best friend for numerous years. I got him while backpacking in Alaska - 1/2 german shephard (moms side) and 1/2 who knows. He was the runt of the litter in a trailer park of a village which had exactly 1 dog -- the mom. He was pure white, ended up to be 110 pounds of pure muscle. When he died I started going with 4spirit -- as in this nickname is in memory of him. Well -- when I joined the panthers board I added the saints to the mix because I did not want decieve the board on my ultimate loyalties.

My dog now is doberman/ rottie/ GS mix -- named arrow. For trivia -- arrow was the dog in a childrens show -- the land of point --- and referenced in the song Me and My Arrow.

On most boards, I'm SCPantherfan.(I'm from SC-So pretty easy to figure out)

Darth Waya is a play on two things-One I'm obviously a fan of Star Wars, and Two, whenever somebody would put up one of those silly "How Evil Are You?" or "What Movie Villain are you?" quizzes, I'd score insanely evil every time (One said my heart was as black as Vader's helmet) or get Vader. So the Darth is a play on that.

Waya is the Cherokee word for wolf, and my Yahoo screen name is Waya Ohni or "First Wolf"(I wanted something guaranteed to be unique and that reflected my heritage)

When I registered here, SCPantherfan was taken, so I picked Darth Waya as part of an ongoing joke from the other board.

    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
