Why is Newton so good on 1st down and so bad on 2nd and 3rd ?

Cam Newton passing completion percentage by down:

1st 71.1%

2nd 53.7%

3rd 43.6%...this stat is not sortable, but I have looked at all the bad quarterbacks who have played this season and Newton is by far the worst on 3rd down. Worse than Wilson, Cassell, Weedon, Tannehill, Even Blaine Gabbert is hands down better on 3rd down than Newton.

And, of course, as a result, the Panthers rank dead last in the entire NFL in 3rd down conversions.

Now I know the legions of Cam Newton worshippers will call me an idiot and say that these numbers are Ron Rivera's fault...or Chud's fault...or the defense's fault...LOL...but that assertion just does not stand up to scrutiny. Actually they tell a very different story.

When Chud can open his playbook on 1st down Newton can be very good. When it becomes an obvious passing situation Newton suddenly becomes very bad.

I know, I know. Newton is bad on 3rd downs because he is put in long yardage situations because of Chud and Rivera's stupid read option and otherwise terrible play calling.

Here is the problem, though: Newton's completion percentage on 3rd down and 3-7 yards to go is 38.5%. Sorry, sports fans, those ares very manageable distance. And that completion % stinks. It stinks really badly. And there is only one person you can hang it on: His name is Cameron Newton.

Here is an item for your suggestion box, Cam: play better on 3rd down. Play lots better on 3rd down. Because right now you are the worst QB in the league in obvious passing situations.

Here's an idea for you...get off NFL.com searching for new ways to keep pushing the same agenda. Go back and watch the game again instead. Make some notes about situational football. Point out the exact situations to support your argument.

Then maybe we'll listen to you. Until then, you're just another troll with an agenda.
