Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Normally I don't make mock drafts this early in the off-season but I figured I'd make one just to see how much it changes by the time we get to April.

Round 1

Sheldon Richardson, DT

Unlike Jonathon Hankins, Richardson played in the SEC and proved he belonged with some of the nation's best. I think he is the most NFL-ready DT in the draft besides Lotulelei. He is going to blow people away with his crazy athleticism in February which could cause his draft stock to rise. I doubt he rises above the 14th pick, but if he does, I wouldn't mind seeing us take either Hankins or fellow SEC prospect Jesse Williams. This is a position we have put off for too long and all three of these guys could make an immediate impact alongside Dwan.

Round 2

Dallas Thomas, OT

Jordan Gross is aging quick and with the chance we might have to cut him due to money, it is time we draft his replacement. In a dream situation Thomas can start his career at guard, a position he plays well, and eventually move outside to LT when Gross retires. Many think he could go earlier, but even if he does, one thing is for sure. We must go OL here.

Round 4

Tyrann Mathieu, CB

I don't think anyone knows where this guy will be drafted. I've seen him anywhere from 2nd-7th round. But if he is available here, he is definitely worth the gamble. Remember what happened with Janoris Jenkins?

Round 5

Sam Brenner, OG

As we learned this past year, OL depth is very important. We need some. Brenner could be a very serviceable backup should someone get hurt and eventually be made into a starter.

Round 6

Marcus Davis, WR

Davis has very good size and was a big part of Virginia Tech's offense. If he works on his consistency, he could be made into good 3rd option at WR.

I know many of you are wondering about the Safety position. Well, I'm hoping Gettleman can work some magic either in FA or via trade. Kenny Phillips is a FA and with Gettleman coming from NY, I think this is a real possibility. But expect to see some major roster changes first.

Mathieu will have 32 drug test done before the draft, and is now up to 182 pounds.

LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu is undergoing regular drug testing from an anonymous but certified drug testing company in an effort to show NFL teams he's clean before the 2013 Draft.

Mathieu also plans to attend the Senior Bowl to "mingle" with NFL people as he attempts to quell character concerns. Mathieu's representation promises that Tyrann will have had "32 tests" to show the NFL he's clean after alleged drug abuse at LSU. For now, Mathieu is training with former LSU teammate Patrick Peterson in Arizona. He's bulked up to 182 pounds after being listed at 175 at LSU. If Mathieu does enough to repair his image before the draft, he could be a value pick in the middle rounds

    • Yeah lol well the interest isn’t really about seeking stimulation.  I wanted to see how actually bad it was.  And how much of it was women setting him up to be their cash cow.  That is the stuff that leveraged the Panthers into David Tepper’s hands. It is important in that sense.     The worst that I have heard is that he got them in the car and clumsily reached across to help them with their seat belt and made contact. With his arm. That was probably his big slick move. And I can almost guarantee he wasn’t rejected every time. It is easy to picture that action bringing his head close enough to the woman’s head to where he could go in for the kiss if he thought he got the green light.    I really don’t care if JR was a horn dog. We heard all our lives up until the last few years that one of the perks of being really old is that you can flirt with the young women and it is not just tolerated but expected. So he was keeping a tradition alive at some point 😂
    • Well I rubbed some dirt on it and am still here just not optimistic about the future of the QB position. Even what I had accepted as a ceiling raised to an acceptable level turned out to be a bit of a mirage, upon rewatch of the WC game.  Good plays were there yes, but some pretty bad ones too that the good ones late in the game kind of obscured. I have to downgrade that a little.  Especially after rewatching the last 4 plays. I remember the arguments about he did his job the WRs didn’t but that was really just that last muff by Coker I think it was on our final offensive play.   To the future: I know what my level is for paying him and recommitting, but I don’t have any confidence that the team shares my high bar.    But thanks for the pep talk
