Game 40: Charlotte Bobcats (10-30) vs. Houston Rockets (21-21

Martin Luther King Jr. Special as the 'Cats host the Rockets. The 'Cats are struggling, nothing knew. The Rockets are on a 7 game skid so they are looking to right the ship vs Charlotte. Good start my Charlotte with MKG get a hoop and Henderson with the steal and basket. Lets see if the 'Cats can get a W.

Like always the online streams are non-bobcats..so I'm getting to listen and watch the Houston broadcast. All the talk is about how the Rockets SHOULD get off the losing streak and that they couldn't have a better matchup to get back into a groove. That being said, with the 'Cats hot start, the announcers are pretty upset at the officiating. lol

Some interesting matchups so far...the Rockets are running a lot of screen n' rolls with Lin-Harden, Lin-Parsons, and Harden-Parsons. The 'Cats have the personnel with Kemba-Henderson-MKG to switch all those screens or hedge long enough for the other to recover. Seems to be working well so far. The Rockets may look to use more Lin-Osik (sp) and Harden-Osik screen action to force the 'Cats interior to play outside. Just some interesting notes so far. MKG is playing well, very active. It appears Dunlap has put a focus on getting him involved offensively. Good start by him, Henderson, and Kemba. Biyombo has also been active defensively so far with a block and deflection.

Harden is really the only offense by Houston right now...the 'Cats have been doubling him, which typically leads to backside defensive breakdowns. If Charlotte can continue to force harden to give up the ball and recover well on D it may lead a frustrating offensive day for Houston.

Charlotte - 56 Houston - 45 at Half. Charlotte is leading the turnover battle 3-9 and its leading to fast break opportunities. Look for Dunlap to alter their defense on Harden just a little because you know Houston is going to try and take advantage of double teams. Lets see if the 'Cats can continue with the momentum gained in the first half and get an MLK Day victory at the Cable Box.

Charlotte is struggling out of the half...Houston has made some defensive adjustments by doubling the screens initiated by Walker forcing him to give the ball up...so far Charlotte hasn't adjusted well if at all. Turnovers are abundant so far in the third quarter allowing Houston to get on the break (second in the league in fast break ppg). Charlotte has to make an adjustment or execute better.

    • Regardless of how we got here, any rational fan should be excited by how well Bryce played down the stretch. Anyone not happy about that level of play either doesn't know what they're looking at, or they're still trying to drive tired narratives. Obviously, Cam had an all-time rookie season, and I'm not putting the two in the same basket yet, but as someone who has watched every snap of Panthers football since the start of the new millennium (Im old), Bryce was playing at a higher level at the end of 2024 than Cam was at the end of 2012 (his 2nd season). Cam continued to develop into MVP form, something Bryce has to prove, but as someone who watched both (and will stan for Cam always), Bryce was playing at a higher level to end year 2 than Cam did.  Go watch the film if you dont believe me. None of that means anything for the future. But the people who said BY9 couldnt play in this league are wrong.   That being said, the only thing that matters is this year. #20 is perfectly fair IMO going into the season. I mean think about it, how would you rank him??!  His in-season turnaround is one of the wildest things I've ever seen... how do you rank a guy who looked like a massive bust in September and by January was consistently playing at a top 10 level? My excitement level is pretty damn high heading into this season. There were throws from the Chiefs game onward where Bryce had Drew Brees levels of anticipation. Im excited to see what he can do with a full deck on offense, something we really never gave Cam. Really hope and expect Bryce to move up this list this season.
    • Not really, the only QB's (other than Anthony Richardson) ranked below him are new to their teams as a placeholder starter or drafted in 2024 or 2025, not a lot of gymnastics to get there. It's not about how many that is, if it's 20, 12, or 2... It means there isn't a QB who's team has committed to them for the long term right now that they have ranked below Bryce. That's not a great thing.
    • The changes to onside kicks were ridiculous and ruined a significant part of the game     It was already a high risk low reward play.  Why change it?
