Atletico+Madrid+champions+La+Liga+Spain.

Can Atletico repeat or will the Summer exits prove to be too much to overcome?

Last year Atletico completed the dream league season, but it's been a Summer of change at the top of La Liga. Atletico has been poached to an extent, and Barcelona has brought in plenty of new talent like Luis "The Count" Suarez. Defending European Champions Real Madrid also have had another influx of serious talent with the additions of Toni Kroos, Kaylor Navas and James Rodriguez. While it remains to be seen what will happen with Di Maria and Khedira, it looks to be a two horse race again where Barcelona and Real will battle wire to wire for the League crown.

Your thread is a lot fancier than mine.  Boo!!!

I do not follow La Liga as much as other leagues but I loved seeing Atletico beat out the other two, if only for a season.  What are the chances they, or anybody else is competitive through at least the first half?

They'll be competitive for sure. Just don't think they have the horses to stay up top for the long-haul.

Come on Real! Let's win La Liga this season.

Bale looks much improved, Ronaldo is healthy and only 6 goals away from breaking Raul's record, Navas is as good as advertised, Kroos is a passing guru, Di Maria is back with the team, Modric remains underrated, Benzema is shaking off the rust, and Isco is looking sharp.

James, on the other hand, has been such a disappointment and Khedira is being a sulky whimp.

People thought Bale was a bum last October too. Give James time to get acclimated to the team.

Bale was a different case. He had all the tools to be an explosive forward who lacked experience but was filling a gap. James currently has no place on the team. He's not a False 9 nor is he a good Winger. I don't mind giving him some more time because it appears Di Maria will stay in Madrid (at least for this season) but he's gotta beat out Kroos and Isco too, and his situation isn't looking good right now.

Well, that was both good and bad.

The first leg ends with a draw. I'm surprised Carlo waited so long to bring in Di Maria. Hell, he should have started. James looked better but he's much stronger as a Forward than a False 9 and Winger. So I'm not surprised he had a good performance.

I'm hoping CR7 is okay.

Slight advantage to Atletico into the second leg.

Carvajal - Varane - Ramos - Coentrao

Modric - Kroos - Di Maria

James - Benzema - Bale

Assuming, of course, if Ronaldo sits. We need Di Maria and Varane to start. Carvajal was a pitbull today but he still needs some help and he doesn't mesh well with Pepe.

Is it just me, or does Atletico's manager look like he's a cartel boss?

Appears Ronaldo could face a ban. I doubt it because he's Ronaldo, but we'll see.

Messi scores and then 60 seconds later Mascherano receives a red card for denying clear goal scoring opportunity.

I'll just put this here since we have no League 1 thread and Falcao could soon be in La Liga....just scored on a great back post header...

BREAKING: Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone given eight-match touchline ban.

Ronaldo punches a guy and apparently gets nothing.

I hate Simeone so I'm happy about this...

That said, Ronaldo should have gotten some kind of suspension.

Did you see the play in question? Ronaldo was being mugged (in a fugging headlock). That's Atletico futbol for you though. So why should Ramos and Cristiano get any suspension for fighting back?

Oh come the fuck on, man. That is not an appropriate reaction to someone wrapping an arm around you. That shit happens in every football match ever played.

It's not that intense, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Ronaldo was being 'accidentally' kicked near the knee area in the first half. Again, Atletico plays a dirty style.

An eye for an eye.

What's even funnier is it appears Ramos (I think) actually swings an arm at the ball haha.
