  3. Just so everyone knows what we all are talking about with this Creech guy: Also Thursday, one of the primary backers of House Bill 2 – the Christian Action League of North Carolina – called on state leaders to fight the federal action. “At the hands of his henchmen in the U.S. Department of Justice, King Obama has delivered his message of intimidation to the state of North Carolina,” executive director Mark Creech said on Facebook. “The Great Pontiff of Political Correctness holds the educational futures of our state’s children hostage, while dangling the money bags of federal funds over their heads, demanding in exchange North Carolina bow to the madness of obliterating male and female distinctives.” Read more here: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article75797387.html#storylink=cpy
  4. New to Star Trek

You don't have to see all the episodes to enjoy them, in fact there are quite a few clunkers that would probably detract from the experience. Here are some jumping off ideas...if you use this at all I'd be happy to add more... TOS (the original series) Season 1 Really the majority of episodes are really good. You can skip Squire of Gothos and Return of the Archons IMHO Season 2 Amok Time - They visit Vulcan, big Spock episode with great music in particular. The Changeling - NOMAD is cool Mirror, mirror -Amazing alternate universe where they are all bad guys. Comes into play at the end of the "Enterprise" series Trouble with Tribbles - Funny and well made Piece of the Action - Starhips and gangsters Season 3 Paradise Syndrome I LOVE this episode, Kirk lives among what are essentially American Indians. Great location shoot. Is There in Truth No Beauty - great story idea, with the woman who went on to play Dr. Pulaski in ST:TNG Tholian Web - love the interaction or lack thereof with the aliens trying to trap the Enterprise Cloud Minders - an average episode but the cloud city is a cool idea for someone to rip off in another franchise LOL TNG First season mostly sucks, the last episode "The Neutral Zone" is one I enjoy a lot. The characters are mostly fleshed out by this point (except Worf and Geordi) the story has humorous and serious elements that work well together. "The Battle" wasn't bad at all. "Haven" has Gene Roddenberrys wife as Trois mom, who turned out to be a great recurring character. "The Big Goodbye" is an interesting Holodeck episode. "Home Soil" has implications in later episodes. "Symbiosis" has a great story and is a good representative of the tone this show would take as it went on. Season 2 the show was finding itself for real. Good episodes: Elementary, Dear Data Outrageous Okona Matter of Honor Q Who - best Q episode I think. Up the Long Ladder - actually not a good episode, I just had a thing for the female lead and foot washing Season 3 Booby Trap - Great Geordi episode Deja Q - Q loses his powers Yesterdays Enterprise - top two episode to me. Everything about it is great. The Offspring - Strong Data episode with great questions to answer Hollow Pursuits crazy guy from the A Team making up holodeck versions of the show stars Sarek - Spocks dad with great acting from him and Picard Best of Both Worlds I - the Borg get to town

  15. Update on the toddler body count

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/05/01/toddlers-have-shot-at-least-23-people-this-year/ This past week, a Milwaukee toddler fatally shot his mother after finding a handgun in the back seat of the car they were riding in. The case drew a lot of national attention given the unusual circumstances: Little kids rarely kill people, intentionally or not. But this type of thing happens more often than you might think. Since April 20, there have been at least seven instances in which a 1- , 2- or 3-year-old shot themselves or somebody else in the United States: On April 20, a 2-year-old boy in Indiana found the gun his mother left in her purse on the kitchen counter and fatally shot himself. The next day in Kansas City, Mo., a 1-year-old girl evidently shot and killed herself with her father's gun while he was sleeping. On April 22, a 3-year-old in Natchitoches, La., fatally shot himself after getting hold of a gun. On April 26, a 3-year-old boy in Dallas, Ga., fatally shot himself in the chest with a gun he found at home. On April 27, the Milwaukee toddler fatally shot his mother in the car. That same day, a 3-year-old boy in Grout Township, Mich., shot himself in the arm with a gun he found at home. He is expected to survive. On April 29, a 3-year-old girl shot herself in the arm after grabbing a gun in a parked car in Augusta, Ga. She is also expected to survive. Last year, a Washington Post analysis found that toddlers were finding guns and shooting people at a rate of about one a week. This year, that pace has accelerated. There have been at least 23 toddler-involved shootings since Jan. 1, compared with 18 over the same period last year.
