Panthers Traded 2011 3rd for pick #89

Armanti Edwards 5'11" 190 Athlete

Super Athletic --- Excellent speed and acceleration with a burst --- Very quick --- Elusive with great vision and instincts as a runner --- Terrific Football IQ --- Solid throwing mechanics --- Very good arm strength and accuracy --- Tough --- Versatile --- Competitive --- Offers some potential as a return man --- Leader --- Experienced --- Productive --- A Winner.

Will most likely have to learn a new position --- Average height and bulk --- Doesn't always throw a real pretty ball --- Struggles to find throwing lanes --- Hands and ball skills are question marks --- Raw as a route runner --- Not real strong --- Product of a spread system --- Did not play against a lot of top competition --- Durability may be an issue.

Was a four-year starter for the Mountaineers --- Arguably the most decorated player in NCAA Division I FCS history --- Became the first two-time winner of the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the top player in NCAA Division I FCS (formerly Division I-AA) --- Named 1st Team All-Southern Conference in 2006, 2008 and 2009 and 2nd Team in 2007 --- Was a four-time Division I FCS All-American --- Ranks second in FCS history in total offense behind only Steve McNair --- The only player in Division I history (FCS or FBS) with at least 9,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career --- Owns 64 Appy State and 14 Southern Conference records --- Compiled a 42-7 record as a starter, which included four-straight SoCon titles and back-to-back national championships ('06 & '07) --- Also earned notice for his work in the classroom --- Father, Freddie, was convicted of murder in 2005 and sentenced to 30 years in prison --- Cousin, Renaldo Gray, was a starting quarterback at Furman --- Drew interest from some Division I programs as a wide receiver prospect but chose Appalachian State because he wanted to play quarterback --- Missed four games with a shoulder injury in 2007 --- Underwent knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus in 2009 --- Injured right foot in a lawn mowing accident during the summer of 2009 and required 35 stitches --- Also battled ankle and hip ailments --- Exploded onto the national scene after leading his team to a historical upset over Michigan in "The Big House" in 2007 --- Will attempt to follow in the footsteps of guys like Antwaan Randle El, Josh Cribbs and Brad Smith as college signal callers who made the successful transition to wideout in the NFL --- Best fit at the next level will most likely come as a slot receiver, return specialist and Wildcat Quarterback

Actually we gave up a 2011 2nd round pick... not a 3rd round pick.

And holy poo, this guy reminds me of Michael Vick..

I know there was a lot of talk about the Panthers being interested in him, but I'm kinda surprised they actually took him.

Next year's second for this guy? It is entirely possible that next year's second will be a top 40 pick.

I know Gnat just jizzed in his pants, but the Panthers paid way too much to get this guy.

I'm an App Grad, and this is a horrible pick. Not worth a 2nd next year, has never played WR, already took a WR in the 2nd, and Eversen Griffen is still on the board.

well it says he never faced top competition but in his defense.. here are his numbers vs michigan from 07.

17/23 227 yds 3 TDs 2 INTs 17 rushes 62 yards 1 TD

2 picks yes but still solid

and i realize these dont matter because he wont play qb for us but still shows that his competition shouldnt be used against him..

i think this pick has potential

I love the pick. Armanti has "it" and will prove the Panthers made a good choice.

I like that the panthers picked him, BUT...he was not going anywhere before our next pick & to give up a SECOND ROUNDER?!! Hurney & Fox are in panick (win now) mode.

I don't like how much they gave up to get him. Give FOx an freakin extension, so he can stop 'reaching'. We need a stable team & that includes knowing who your coach will be.

not worth the trade unless they think the Panthers will have a late 2nd rounder.

Edwards is a real good ol' boy. He's going to be a great player for us.

I do think it's a bit of a reach, but not something I'm too mad about. He may have been off the board by the next round, there were as many players being reached for in this draft as there were players falling. Now we finally have a KR threat, hopefully he can also play some slot or spice up or wildcat.
