Expect 4 or more bad draft picks next year...

if we have more than 8 picks.

Just an observation I had when looking at our past 5 drafts. When we've had more than 8 picks, we usually have 4 or more bad picks. However when we had only 7 or 8 picks, we only had 2 or 3 bad picks. By the way, the 2005 draft had 10 picks with 7 of them being bad. Our worst ever. Seven or eight picks is the magic number. Anything more and we struggle.

2006 (8 picks):

McClover

Montgomery

Salley

2007 (8 picks):

Shaw

Robinson

Jarrett

2008 (9 picks):

Bernadeau

Taylor

Hayden

Godfrey

2009 (7 picks):

Robinson

Irvin

2010 (10 picks):

Stanford

Pike

Edwards

Clausen

Here is the dreaded 2005 draft (10 picks):

Berger

Haye

Emanuel

LeFors

Ellison

Mathis

Shelton

I wouldn't call Godfrey a bad pick. An average safety at best, but for a 3rd rd pick to start almost every game, and at a moderately bad to above average level, I'd call that a pretty average pick. And it's way too early to determine the 2010 bad picks...

so if we have 8 picks or less we will have 5 or less players work out, but if we pick 9+ we will have at least 5 players work out?

i'll take my chances with bulk picks.

It's more saying that we should keep about the average amount of picks (7 or 8) and sprinkle in a few good vets instead of overloading on rookie draft picks.

fwiw...i would rather use most of the picks that we can trade after the 3rd round to either trade up in the draft or trade for vet players to fill holes at DT and OG especially.

we have enough youth on the team already.

we very easily could end up with 10 picks this year, though...we'll have several comp picks, including another 3rd for peppers.

Just for perspective... how does that compare with every other team in the league?

If Dwayne Harris is available still around the 4th or 5th round he would be a solid wr pick up for us. After seeing him for 4 years at ECU I'm thoroughly convinced he'll be a player at the next level. Same feeling I had about Chris Johnson.....and that turned out pretty well haha

Seems like we suck at drafting Defensive tackles, safeties, WRs, tight ends, and quarterbacks, but other than that.... good job marty & co

    • I honestly thought this was going to be a McCaffery thread.
    • I would give anything to have 23 year old Jonathan Stewart on our Roster.. as years have gone by, I feel his potential has been wasted behind DeAngelo Williams, who in his own right was a beast for us in his prime..    As we wait eagerly and impatiently for our pick, let us remember and appreciate the beast that stewart was..( still is) ..   He was so explosive..  bouncy...  flexible.. powerful.. fast...      BEAST...  I became a fan in 2003 because I won a panther football in 1st grade at the end of that year for good behavior and learning my 1st grade stuff.. the following year..  I watched them in the Super Bowl in 2004... became a fan,, in my childhood, i grew and grew on them.. it solidified in 2008 when i watched double trouble GAPE the Bucs Live.. my first Panthers game.. what a night to solidify my fandom.. i received monday night tickets as a gift for getting all A's my 8th grade year...   since, ive seen a Panther great leave in DeAngelo.... but Stewart remained..   (some deangelo Highlights remain.. its OK, hes a panther great *turned sour*    but non the less)         i had SO MUCH PRIDE in our run game...  every madden i owned i made sure double trouble had their share...   and then there was Stewart.. the young, bouncy, fast guy... he turned tough...  he turned into a vet... a MoFo who will take YOU OUT.. carrying our ROCK along with CAM...     and Then, the best Expirience we have all experienced......    #2015     And i had so much pride, FINALLY.... Stewart was recognized......             A recoil year in 2016...            And I really believe there is a revival in 2017 of double trouble.......    #Fournette   except there isnt a dead roster... we have a Loaded roster, that will WIN...  winning with Cam Newton...  Stewart.. and ....         Let the Carolina GAPING run game live on folks...  I love the PAnthers like all of you... heres to 2017.
