Biggest reason I think most of our free agents will be back is the Panthers literally have to spend upwards of $50 million dollars just to reach the salary FLOOR. If they have to overpay Johnson I'm 100% fine with that. The guy is going to be a star in this league.

This--and he is 24. You do not let him walk. They have an agreement with CJ and he is their priority. He will be a panther.

Wouldnt rule out Brown just yet. Johnson didn't come in to his own until his third year.

Not every potential FA will bolt for the highest possible contract ala Peppers. Dude wanted to get out of here like nothing I've ever seen in sports. I'm pretty sure that CJ will either a) happily sign whatever generous contract the Panthers off or B) the Panthers will easily match whatever anybody else throws out there. Of course no one knows 100%, but at least on the defensive side, our coaching staff is about as good as you could ever ask for.

I think Hardy will have the upper hand when it comes to starting with Brayton still being a possibility. I see Brown as a situational pass rusher and I've been saying that since he was drafted. I'm ok with that, if he can put up 5 - 8 sacks a year I'm happy

I like Hardy matched with Johnson. I still have faith in Brown as well. He showed a few flashes last year before getting injured. I like Brown as a 3rd down pass rusher.

I am not really worried about the panthers not paying or paying CJ. I was more worried about him just not really looking at our offer to go play for a team that was a playoff contender or something to that extent. Reading the CBS link made me a little more optimistic, but guys always say that because they want to get paid where ever they end up. D-Will has said the same thing and a lot of people still think he is gone as well.

I always kind of hope that other teams may under value CJ because we sucked so bad and our D was on the field so much. It might make them think his stats were somewhat inflated. At the same time it could make them think that he is a beast because he could play for that long and not get worn out.

I think Brown is gonna have a break out year and win the starting RDE job. Although I honestly think Brown's optimal fit would be as a 3-4 OLB where his speed, quickness, and burst would be better utilized.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Hardy win a starting DE job over Brown and Brayton (whom I don't think we'll be bringing back after his lack of production last year).

Greg Hardy showed more in his rookie season than both of Brown's yrs in the nfl put together. I'm almost ready to call him a bust. There have been plenty of games were I dont see him the whole game. He has had zero impact. All I ever see is him doing that silly spin move right out the play. Hardy wins the starting job. Put Brown on special teams and give Norwood a chance

"I hope I do".... I just don't understand who you can say it's fact and your not him or Carolina. Strong belief... yes, Factual, no. Anything can happen or change.

for all practical reasons it's fact. I'll eat a shoe if he's not a Panther in 2011
