Its an interesting story to say the least. If OPEC were to stop accepting dollars as payment, it would be a crushing blow, not only to America, but to most of the civilized world.
They lost me on the comments about America not wanting to "empower" the people of Africa based solely because of race though. Of course it would improve they're economic power in the world, but it would have a much larger effect on the oil-rich countries of the Middle East(Asian Contenental) and Russia who have alot more oil than Africa Does. Besides, MOST (not all) of the countries in Africa that have significant oil reserves are ruled by people of middle-eastern racial decent.

Iraq was about to switch to the Euro before we invaded as well.
