Are you serious?

Went onto ESPN.com and they actually have a poll questioning whether last night's home-plate collision between Scott Cousins and Buster Posey was a clean play or not.

Are you fuging kidding me? This is baseball right? Home-plate collisions are part of the game, also this happened in extra innings, great play by Cousins.

poo happens sometimes and it sucks that Posey is seriously hurt, but in no way is this a dirty play and no way in hell should they be taken out of the game.

Agreed.

I'm hearing waaaaaaay to much blather about changing the rules, requiring catchers to play the plate like the other bases are covered (over, not in front).

Don't get that.

I understand asset protection, but lets not further tarnish the image of the game towards greater pussification.

I agree.

Collisions are pretty much part of the game as is breaking up a double play at second.

And I am a die hard Giants fan who has a serious Man-Crush on Buster.

edit: I just saw the replay and now I change my mind. That was a blatant upper body hit. I would be more accepting if it was Buster's fault for being in the base line but he was just in front of home plate like he should have been.

I'm still cool with collisions but this was pretty blatant.

Well of course it was blatant, Cousins was trying to knock the ball loose. He was trying to give his team the lead in extras.

There is no way he was trying to hurt Posey.

If you want to protect your star players, it's simple: don't put them at home plate where they can be drilled by runners.

Ummm...

Kinda hard to keep a catcher away from the plate.

He wears pads just like football players .. they take 30+ hits a game .. maybe not 30 just like that , but still its relatively simple , dont wanna get hit .. play over the base , if you want to play real baseball play in front like buster did and get smacked like you're supposed to .. you don't have to change the rules just so other players have an excuse to run away and not get laughed at. If you want to fine players for hitting when its unnecessary that's also fine , you don't have to change the rules.

Also a Giants fan btw .. though I don't watch baseball much , just always been a big Bonds fan.

That might not work either, that is change, baseball and change don't do well.

    • I would be more than happy with a battle of the Carolinas for the title (if for no other reason than it means we got by UK and KU). Please beat Florida for me.  I am sick of hearing about them.
    • Ross for me. Davis is good, but the same way Ross' previous injuries give people pause, so should Davis' competition. You can only play who's on your schedule, but Davis played against inferior talent and, for the most part, got shutdown against good schools (Wisconsin, OSU). He did dominate the other schools so I'm not saying he won't be a good pro. I just think this T.O. talk and saying he's going to beast out could be premature.  Davis last game he was shut down by Wisconsin and then, due to injury, hasn't run at the combine or his pro day. For me, that's a little risky too at #8.  I wouldn't take Ross at 8, but what we need based off of our roster is a player of Ross' abilities and strengths, IMO. I wouldn't be mad with Davis, but I prefer Ross and would not want either at #8.
