But we could lose less.

Reduce the number of delivery days and increase the cost (slightly ~.01/pc) on bulk mail.

That would go a long way towards reducing the losses.

Yeah I understand that entirely. A close friend is a higher up with the post office and agrees entirely with your plan of action.

Unfortunately, a certain group is standing in the way. Any guesses who?

Won't work, the gov't will just keep the same number of employees and only have them work 3 days a week.

Cut the delivery days to 3...stagger them in areas so you can have carriers working different routes on different days.

Not hard to figure out. Many ways to streamline an old dinosaur like this.

maybe the PO boxes get serviced every day but delivery to homes is only a couple times a week. That way, the PO box is more preferable and people come to the mail rather than the mail coming to them. Many many ways to change the system.

Of couse there are. You can not assuming universal Internet access even today. In 2010 it was estimated that as much as 25% of residences did not have Internet access.
