Postal Service reports massive $5 billion loss

Neither UPS nor Fed Ex make a stop at EVERY residential address and most business addresses 6 days a week.

Apples and oranges...

Good point.

I would say that 3/4 of the mail delivered is "junk mail" and sales papers and such. USPS does not charge enough for the bulk mail as it too has to go to every household just to be trashed.

The whole system needs to be re evaluated. I can have "junk" calls stopped from coming into my home, why not "junk" mail? Would the gov be better off spending money to help consumers learn about paperless systems rather than propping up a dinosaur which is sucking money out of the taxpayer.

Immediately stop the advertisements of the USPS. Love the fact that they spend money on tv ads promoting a product that loses tons of money. The more they sell, the more we lose.

So basically the only reason we have at this point to continue with the UPS is to send people jury summons less expensively?

The Postal Service could jack up their prices the same way a private company would have to.

Except that the postal service relies on economies of scale that require a certain volume of mail. Increase prices, volume goes down, postal service goes further in the shitter.

I think the post office is just one of those services that government provides that we are just going to lose money on. Simple as that.

But we could lose less.

Reduce the number of delivery days and increase the cost (slightly ~.01/pc) on bulk mail.

That would go a long way towards reducing the losses.

Kramer went the 'no mail' route, and he ended up with a potato sack over his head in a back room somewhere. Not me man. No way. Bring on the Bed Bath & Pizza coupons!

Wilford Brimmley was going to kick Kramers ass but the diabeetus and Karmer's remorse stopped him cold.

Yeah I understand that entirely. A close friend is a higher up with the post office and agrees entirely with your plan of action.

Unfortunately, a certain group is standing in the way. Any guesses who?

Won't work, the gov't will just keep the same number of employees and only have them work 3 days a week.

Cut the delivery days to 3...stagger them in areas so you can have carriers working different routes on different days.

    • Sunday I was too annoyed and busy to post reasons he was wrong, by Monday he was telling everyone bye. Lol Honestly I think that was the most outraged I've ever gotten about anything on this forum. Even more than someone saying Jake Delorme sucks, back in 04 lol Its kind of mind-boggling someone who can read and write was truely blaming the girl for being rape.
    • NFL Network is showing the Carolina / Giants game from our 2015 season.  I'm just watching the tail end where Beckham scored on Norman and it showed Cam's "I got this" nod. Man, what a great drive.  In 2015, we simply played with more urgency, hunger, and the drive to be the best. Cam had the confidence because everyone was playing as hard as they could.   Going into 2017, if this team can get hungry again, they are going to be fun to watch!  The more I think about it, the dominance of that team wasn't some kind of magic, but rather in will.  They would not be denied. The good news is that they can find the motivation again.  Nothing special.  I know we're all in draft mode, but I'm feeling pretty excited for the season.  I think our team will come back motivated!
