wonder if we had this much whining with the light bulb and electricity were invented?

"oh no, the candle makers might have their lives disrupted" Hey, it is progress and change and you have to roll with it.

It's not so much the jobs that would be lost only. The whole system just isn't cost-efficient anymore and yet certain basic aspects of it are still needed. Even if you cut a ton of postal workers you're still in a situation where the number of workers required to do even the basics costs more than the money that's coming in.

So if you're going to advocate scrapping the USPS and moving to electronic communication answer a couple of questions for me.

How are you going to guarantee that every home and every office has a permanent email address? [email protected]? Remember, the address has to be divorced from the person residing or working there so you cant rely on the public to set it up. It will have to be a government supplied address.

How are you going to ensure that at least one person at that address has an electronic device capable of retrieving and sending mail through this new system? Government supplied tablets? And how to you keep them from being taken off site and robbing that address of the ability to get mail?

Electronic communication has come a very long way in a short period of time but its not the answer yet. Maybe some of the children being born today will see the USPS cease to exist but most of the folks old enough to post on this forum will die before the USPS does.

Cut the delivery days to 3 and charge $0.005/pc more for bulk mail.

That's what it will take, but that will cost delivery man jobs and the union has so far resisted that type of movement.

Require that the USPS charge what it actually costs. The free market will have folks moving to better systems immediately. Many many entrepenuers will spring up to fill the gap. Problem will take care of itself.

They've lost $15B+ this year alone...

http://www.cnbc.com/id/49992517

The head of the financially struggling U.S. Postal Service said the agency must be allowed to ease the terms of prepayments into a retiree health-care fund and eliminate general mail delivery on Saturday.

Donahoe says the post office needs to refinance retirement health fund payments to $1 billion a year instead of $5 billion.

Nope....just another government agency...losing tax payer money...because some stupid fuging liberal "needed" it.

See how that works....had we not created the "program" as so many liberals like to call them...then we would never have had this discussion.

you don't know anything at all about the postal accountability and enhancement act, do you?

What does that have to do with the liberals of this country continuing to add more and more government employees, and programs.
