So you're saying injuries don't have an effect on a team? When the backups to the backups are injured there's not much you can do. Thomas davis obviously was a risky decision to keep. But beason was a huge blow. It affects the way teams gameplan. Im sure if the 49ers lost willis and whoever the other backups are they wouldnt be 9-1. Its not an excuse its just reality. Sure, there are quality backups in the league but when they are forced to play full time we see what happens (connor), hence why they are in the backup role

Obviously injuries have an effect on a team but every team faces injuries. Packers had more talent in IR last year than we do now and won the super bowl. Would having no injuries helped? Of course, but we still wouldn't be a true contender or a well run franchise and it's not realistic to expect no injuries anyway.

Injuries is the excuse. Lack of depth is the real problem.

Freeman and the Bucs have clearly slid back with a coach on the hot seat. Drew brees won't be able to play forever, and Atlanta has no draft picks for 15 years for Julio Jones. We're bound to slide into an NFC South title sometime in the next 7 years or so.

Technically, injuries is the fan's excuse. Rivera made it clear today he didn't want to talk about injuries because he didn't want to make any excuses, which I respect.

I shouldn't say just depth but overall talent of the roster. Even if you have a few fill in scrubs playing terribly if the rest of your team is extremely talented you'll be able to compensate for it.

If you look at your 53 man roster with zero injuries, and it's one of the most talented rosters in the league, stacked with playmakers, you'll can lose a few key guys throughout the year and still make the playoffs. Or at the very least be in the hunt.

The Ravens just faced a very tough Bengals team with a winning record (BTW we haven't beat a team with a winning record since the 2009 season). They had their leader and HOF LBer Ray Lewis standing on the sidelines in street clothes. But they're one of the best run organizations in the league and are STACKED with talent. So they still play well and pull out a win and are now leading their division. Their fans don't have to sit around and make excuses.

Teams with less talent and more injuries have had more success winning games. Including our very own 2004 team (?).

If you want to say 'poo happens' fine, but I agree with Rivera, it's just an excuse and one thing does not cause another.

Honestly, I think people realize all this already. They just feel the need to put positive spins on their team no matter how obvious it is that they have a serious lack of talent. Maybe they feel it's their duty as fans or just a way to make them feel better about having another losing season. Who knows.

teams have figured newton out.

your move newton

Newton was forcing the ball because that it what the coaching staff wants him to do this year. Whenever teams drop back in coverage like TEN and DET did, Cam should punish them on the ground. Notice his 2 rushing TDs?

I hope that the coaches take Cam's leash off next year.

It's a combination of factors, to single out any one for why a team wins or loses is stupid. That's why all these reasons excuses facts or bullshit never tells the whole story and for any of us to argue any one of these points as the reason is just wanting to argue.

But can we agree that all black unis would give us 16-0 year after year?

You're right, it's a whole number of factors. Would zero injuries help? Sure. Easy schedule? Yup. 6 months worth of offseason to implement your new scheme? Of course. Every bounce of the ball and questionable call going your way? Absolutely.

But the overwhelming most important factor is having a top end front office that stacks your team with talent year in and year out. A roster overflowing with talent puts you in the hunt every year. This is the #1 factor in having continued success by a huge margin. This is something we obviously don't have yet so many people bring up all these other factors but can't admit to this.
