Coach Rivera said we're missing a scat back..

There's a good chance that Both Rainey and Demps go undrafted. Right now James is rated in the high 90's to low 100's overall of all the prospects in the draft and it's highly possible that he falls to the 4th or 5th round.

The over-analyzing and reading between the lines is largely a product of having a coach who said nothing for 8 years. Guys, Ron will tell you what he is looking for as long as it does not hurt the Panthers strategically. I guarantee he is not looking for a back to replace Dwill or Stew and find it very hard to believe he is looking for a third back, and even if he was, its way down on the list of priorities.

Let's not get hung up here. We need a nasty defense. We play against two teams in our division who have perfected the downfield strike by insulating themselves with decent o-lines, a QB, and competent receivers who play indoors on turf. If we don't get nasty on defense, and I'm talking about the line and linebackers who blitz, we are not going to win our division. Without winning the division we are wild-card hunting bottom feeders.

Defense, Defense, Defense. Based on our division we are relegated to that philosophy. Learn it. Live it. We had the best rookie in NFL history ever at QB who broke all the records, made all he highlights and took our O from worst to top 5-7 (somewhere near top) and it equated to 4 additional wins. 4 !! As the worst offense we won 2 games. As one of the best we won 6.

Blackmon is one of my favorite players in all of the NCAA coming out. Kalil's brother will be a great addition to any team. There are plenty of offensive players that are enticing. That said, if we don't get a nasty defense custom built to dismantle the Falcons and Saints we are gonna be average... forever. Get me some nasty muthafuggers who want to hurt people and plant prissy-ass QB's. That is it. That is what we need. I think CJ, Applewhite, Anderson, and definitely Hardy are of the mold. already. I know TD likes to embarrass opposing playmakers and Beason is, well, BEAST SON. So we are on our way. We need a head cracking free safety and a couple DT's with a mean streak. Hogan may be the corner but he needs some coaching up.

I am not going to act like I know who is who and who is capable of what but I know we need some attitude and to be singularly focused on taking the pass game away from the two prima donna teams in our division who play in domes and don't let their QB's get dirty. If not we may as well give up now.

He's called Mike Goodson and Rivera doesn't use him.

I don't know what Goodson did to get benched. He looked good in his time in 2010, had a few 100 yard games. Didn't fumble that much. He didn't even look like he got a fair shot at carrying the football this year. All I saw him do was return kicks then get benched.

So we have no link to any sort of quote?...sorry, I'm old school, somebody has to actually have been attributed to a direct quote before I believe it....Crappy OP, IMO...

We all heard it during the game.

Joe Adams from Arkansas might fit the bill, despite not being a RB. He's a shifty receiver that is also a great returner and may be available in the 4th round. After all, anyone we would get to play that scatback role will be in there mainly for the passing game anyway, so I don't think it has to necessarily be a RB. Regardless, whoever it would be, he also needs to be a good return man.

I realize what a scat back is. But he is no Darren Sproles. You think Rainey has been good at UF, Sproles was a beast at KSU. At least Sproles has some physicality. All I am saying is that Rainey doesn't seem like a NFL Player to me.

gotcha.. I can never be sure, I've heard less uneducated things around here.. the dude looks like he has some incredible elusiveness, but I haven't watched his games.. I'll take your word for it.

He does have great moves and elusiveness, that is true. As you can see, speed as well. There just seems to be something missing that does't make me confident in picking him. I think it's the lack of physicalness. He doesn't seem to want contact and that's why you'll see him run sideways until there is a hole where he is free. In open space he is good, don't get me wrong. But that's not always going to happen in the NFL.

He could turn out to be a good "scat back" but I am not sure it's worth it. Give him a shot at UDFA but don't draft him is my view.

I can't see Rainey succeeding all that well in the NFL. I have watched basically every game of his while at UF. He has a great juke and spin move but he just isn't physical enough for me. He loves to run sideways until (if) he sees an opening to run north-south. He wouldn't be much of a RB but more of a receiver out of the backfield.

If the front office wants someone like that, then fine. But I wouldn't draft him til the 6th round on.

You apparently do not understand what a scat back is and what their purpose is.

They are used like Sproles.....dangerous in the open field.

Goodson's a little too tall to be considered a true scatback type.

They tend to be smaller guys.

Whatever speed Goodson has doesn't seem to show up at game time.

running the ball or returning? there may be a reason for the returning if he's hesitating..

he's already proven to be a quality RB, but fumbling has kept him off the field..

I can't believe people are actually taking this seriously.
