i had an interesting conversation with a draftnik about nawrocki on twitter

i was trying to get some "industry" insight into what he thought about nawrocki's comments about newton as well as find out where nawrocki got his "info"....and troll a little :redface:. i might have come off as being a bit argumentative and disrespectful but whatever.
what was most interesting, though, was that (surprise!) he didn't actually talk to anyone at auburn. he talked to a couple scouts and a GM. nawrocki took that 2nd hand info and dind't just state it as someone else's opinion, but as fact.
i don't know much about this draft guy i was talking to, btw. it's just someone called "the sideline view"...i dunno. just one of the NFL draft twitter feeds i follow.
i'll post the conversation in the next post in case you want to read the thing.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
@JoshNorris I respect Nawrocki the most in terms of being as close to what a league scout does as you will find.

@raynmannfldraft ray
because nawrocki did such a great job w/ newton. LOL the dude showed himself to be a narrow minded hack.
@raynmannfldraft ray
who was it nawrocki talked to to find out about cam newton being fake?

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
Spoke with at least two people I know. I confirmed with them they spoke to him. Auburn teammate said same thing last year
@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
If you think Nawrocki is a hack for passing along info he got from people who did character background then you are crazy.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
I get character stuff from league people all the time. Sometimes I use it. Keep in mind character evaluation not complete.

@raynmannfldraft ray
so you still believe that crap?

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
Believe what? I spoke to two teams who did character work on him. HIs own teammates had issues w/ him at times last year.

@raynmannfldraft ray
did he talk to coaches? did he talk to anyone with a favorable view of him? if so, why didn't he share that?

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
That has nothing to do with the football evaluation side though. Most teams break down player character the same way he did

@raynmannfldraft ray
did you and him seek a balanced perspective? just wondering why it wasn't shared. not the spin he wanted?
@raynmannfldraft ray
you think he did a better idea than the panthers did? you trust his assessment over theirs? they probably saw thru the BS.
@raynmannfldraft ray
how much effort did he put into the football eval. focus on his eval was on his character and it was off base.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
You can disagree with him making the info he got public, but that info was out there. I had it before Nolan did.

@raynmannfldraft ray
was there any effort to balance or was there any interest in finding it. was it looking for dirt or what made him successful?
@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
He did not talk to coaches. He talked to scouts and a GM and they got it from coaches.
@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
I don't know about balanced perspective. I heard same stuff and had him #1. Other teams heard it and had him #1. Point?

@raynmannfldraft ray
and that's all he talked to or the only opinion he got? finding that incredibly hard to believe.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
I respect his assessment. I don't have to trust anything he says or doesn't say other than I know he is doing it legit

@raynmannfldraft ray
was it coaches and players in florida or did they talk to ones at blinn and auburn?

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
NFL teams didn't "see through BS" because they do own work. We live in this media draft bubble and they live in real world

@raynmannfldraft ray
heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...gotcha.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
you can minimize it if you want to, but you are trivializing the process because you might not understand it.

Go back & read his football evaluation. Isn't that bad. Newton much better @ continuing to look down field than NN thought
@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
To answer abt balance, read my article about this topic from last year and tell me what you think: blog.chron.com/fantasyfootbal…

@raynmannfldraft ray
"Very disingenuous — has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted and has a selfish, me-first makeup." really? not bad? lol

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
The people my scouts talked to where at Auburn, not Florida because you know what they are going to say.

@raynmannfldraft ray
what the crap is that even doing in an evaluation? do they do that with everyone? there was bias
@raynmannfldraft ray
i think you did ok with your review of his statements, but understandably, you are going to be defending him. he's 1 of you guys

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
He's not one of my guys. I've spoken to him 4 times ever. I am just being honest. You have one perspective, I have other

@raynmannfldraft ray
if he or any of u are going to be reporting anything that derogatory, u better go and talk to the individual themselves.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
In case you didn't know... those things are in NFL evaluations all the time. You are used to reading draft writers

@raynmannfldraft ray
he made it public and stated it as fact. not opinion. he didn't say that is what some said. he said that is what he was.
@raynmannfldraft ray
him doing it without talking to the man himself, esp. phrasing it that way showed a lack of character. he's a character assassin

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
why are you so ramped up about this still? Are you an Auburn or Panther fan? I'm just curious
@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
nevermind. I read your timeline.

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
you clearly don't follow Nawrocki's work or you would know that he has done that with other prospects in the past.

@raynmannfldraft ray
done what? attacked people's character without talking to the man himself?

@SidelineFB TheSidelineView
okay, we're finished.

@raynmannfldraft ray
you didn't clarify. meh...
btw...while it may seem that i'm still upset about all this, i've moved on. i was just curious about this guys perspective and just got kind of pushy. i didn't care about winning anything either. it's a stupid twitter conversation.
