Its always has been. Torry Holt, Tim Brown, Hines Ward, Sterling Sharpe, Rod Smith, Marvin Harrison, Jerry Rice. Need more? None of em were burners. AJ Green is slow and yet he's wide open all the time.
Then he has nothing over the 2 wr we have on the roster.
Lafell is bigger a better blocker and has great hands. His route running has improve greatly.
Gettis is bigger faster and has always ran great routes.
We don't need Blackmon he won't even see the field unless somebody gets injuried.

You do realize Rivera is not happy with Lafell nor Gettis. They tried to sign a #2 WR before season started but they failed. Also, Lafell route running is not as good as you think it is. If they tried so hard to get a WR before 2011 season started, they will try even harder now. No Shockey, Gettis coming back from ACL tear and Smitty is going on 34. Sure, let's not address WR position in pass happy league and instead let's get a 5th DT like some suggest.
He liked him by game 11 when Lafell took #2 Legadoo. Plus #89 has been giving Lafell Love for a while now. So that Rivera not liking Lafell Gettis may have worked in TC but is not true now.
Even with a ACL Gettis is faster then Blackmon and taller.
You can deny all you want but there us a good chance that Blackmon doesn't see the Field if we draft him.

If Blackmon drafted, he's will be #1 WR on on our depth chart. Smitty needs to move to slot. The question is can Lafell or Gettis be #1?
I don't know if Blackmon can be a #1. He's not Megatron, Aj green, Fitz or JJ. He has below avg. height and avg. speed.
He played in the Big 12 which hasn't been know for great defense lately. How do you know he can beat Pro football CB.

Blackmon ran a low 4.4 40, I wouldn't call that slow but you're right about his size, he is on the smaller size. He is around the same height as Ted Ginn.

I think people are making a mistake when they say WR is not a need. Gettis is not proven, Lafell is a solid #3, and Smith is short and old-could hit the wall any time.
Compare Gettis to Hardy. Hardy is healthy and actually about where CJohnson was after 2 seasons. Gettis was fair as a rookie and injured with a bad knee injury as a second-year pro. Some of the same people who say we do not need WR want DE. The say. "We need to upgrade our pass rush." We have. DE takes time. Hardy, Keiser, Applewhite
They want a DT. We have 4 DTs (who played better as the year progressed) who were rookies. We have a veteran coming off IR.
They say we need CB when we have no idea how good Hogan will be. Newsflash. We will not know about a drafted CB either.
Even if Lafell continues to develop and Gettis becomes a solid #2, a fourth WR who has #1 potential would be HUGE. It would free Steve Smith from double teams. Allow him to work the slot.
How again is WR a lesser need than DT, CB, or DE? You are guessing, as I am, but I never would say something stupid like, "We have other needs." We need WR.
Finally, look at the value at DE, DT, and CB at #9--Every pick at those positions would be a reach. Floyd and Blackmon would be smarter than any DT, DE, or CB if we do not trade back.
Need is a very potent word. It's not that big of a need. It is a need, but not as major as other positions that could be addressed. I guess it would fall under Priority. Nonetheless, if Blackmon is picked up somehow. You can scratch off that 'need' and work on other needs the rest of the draft.

For all you guys that don't want Blackmon at the expense of a defensive player who may just turn out to be slightly above average (if that), I got news for you: If we stay at number 9, and Blackmon is still there at number 9, then Blackmon will be a Carolina Panther.

He ran a 4.45 in a staged pro day. With Pads he is a low 4.5 guy that is avg.
