These lists are ridiculously hard for me. I could go on for the rest of the day with people who wrote music that really moves me...

  1. Lennon–McCartney (180 credited songs. Lennon–McCartney songs have been covered by more bands than any other songs ever written.)
  2. Eric Clapton (50 credited songs and most of them hit #1! Layla (Derek and the Domino's version) is still my #1 all time song!)
  3. Bob Dylan ( 100 credited songs, may hits. He can't sing, but he can write.)
  4. George Gershwin (George Gershwin composed music for both Broadway and the classical concert hall, as well as popular songs that brought his work to an even wider public. His compositions have been used in numerous films and on television, and many became jazz standards recorded in numerous variations. Countless singers and musicians have recorded Gershwin songs. Rhapsody in Blue is still popular today!) All you have to say is Gershwin and people instantly know who you are talking about. (Much like Madonna.)

Summertime by George Gershwin

#5 Michael Jackson (No mater what you think of the person, He could write #1 songs, but will they stand the test of time?)
