Look at all the players drafted after our picks... always a lol

I remember stewing about Sherrod Martin over CB Sean Smith. Sean Smith could have been converted to safety too.

Before anyone makes fun of Hurney Darius Butler, was picked 41 overall by the genius! Belechick misses more than anyone in the draft..sure they trade down to aquire picks but until the Gronk,Arron Hernandez draft most have been full of guys that get cut out of camp.

2009 was the worst, but the team was in an upheaval we weren't aware of yet. The Panthers were trying to hold on to what they thought was a playoff team, and were making reaches accordingly. The Brown draft was out of desperation in case Peppers held out.

While no one could have predicted that the Arizona game was the end of jake, the biggest fault here was that they didn't blow it up. That would have to wait a year.

They wouldn't have gotten Cam if they had though, so take that for whatever it's worth.

I think the biggest lesson to take from this is don't let your team's position influence how you draft.

Draft and team needs should always be separate. Fill your team with as much cheap talent as possible, conserve future picks, and go from there.

If the panthers did not trade away future picks.. as Fiz's (should be a life lesson statement as a GM) is saying.. That draft would not have looked as bad.

Well they probably wouldn't have gotten Everette Brown.

They would have got like Trevor Laws or something.

I feel like they just about drafted strictly for need in 2011, and went in the complete opposite direction going "BPA" in 2012.

Fiz is 100% right. The moves we made at the time of the 09 draft class made sense. We were a playoff team and one of the better teams in the NFL in 08, so we gambled, and lost horribly.

The jimmy clausen thing made sense at the time because he was considered a major steal. Remember that hurney was going to trade our first pick the next year (which ended up being the cam pick) to try and move up to get jimmy. thank god we avoided that disaster. although on the flip side, we prob would have gotten Luck or RGIII, so its not allllllllll bad

JR basically told me when he called me that 2010 was the first year they had excluded Fox from draft decisions.

and I think Lafell is turning out really well - how long has it been since we've gone into a season wondering who our third receiver, instead of our second receiver, was going to be?
