Matt Moore's football uniform number 17 was retired Friday night before host Hart (Newhall, Calif.) shut out Saugus (Calif.) 35-0.
Currently a quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, Moore had a magical senior year. He completed 66 percent of his passes (234-353) for 3,334 yards and 33 touchdowns while leading Hart to a 13-0 record and the Southern Section Division III championship in 2001. He also ran for 415 yards and seven touchdowns. He later was named CIF-Southern Section Division III Offensive Player of the Year.
As a junior, he starred at safety, making 80 tackles and 10 interceptions.
He attended UCLA and Oregon State and played for the Dallas Cowboys and Carolina Panthers before joining the Dolphins.
Moore's a great guy. Nice to see him accomplish so much from humble beginnings. Hopefully he'll resurface as a starting QB in the NFL again in the future.
