JR wouldn't let barack shine his shoes anyway. I should not have mentioned it.

Really would've liked the Joe Banner route considering he was available there for awhile.

An interesting item to think about regarding Banner though... IIRC, while listening to the Browns new owner's presser, he actually said that he hired Banner as a consultant once he knew he would be the owner to assess everything going in. From there, he developed his relationship with him and then decided to hire him on as the GM/Pres. of football operations.

It would be fairly awesome if we ended up doing that with a guy like Wolf... I doubt any of the guys listed would be particularly interested in taking on that role full-time, but there are a few mentioned in the article that I would love to takeover altogether if they were willing.

But the Bucs beat us in the opener! I thought there was supposed to be some conspiracy with this tied to the election this year!

With all the holes in our roster and the salary cap being what it is, next year's season is not looking too promising right now any.

There is no need to hurry this process.

The new GM will be spending the first several years just trying to undo the mess Hurney has gotten this team into.

We need these kinds of consultants to solve this problem.

I've thought about that as well, but there are some solid options available now. I prefer to get a young up and comer from a solid background versus a re-hash like Jerry Angelo though.

Are there any actual rules stating that we can't hire from another team in-season? Can't we ask permission to interview as is the standard during the playoffs? It does seem awkward, but I fear if we wait until the end of the season we may as well prepare for another wasted season next year as well.

I think that next year being a wasted season is already set in concrete.... look at the cap issues.... there will be no money to spend

Said in the other thread, you have to look past just next year.

If you want to get a guy who can run the franchise well for the next decade or more, then you're not looking for someone that's currently unemployed.

Let the consultant do his job.
