Cam Newton and the forbidden Audibles

This is something that has frustrated me. Most college QB's audible. Seems like all NFL QB's, even rookies audible. Why would Ron and Chud want the Panthers to run a play they know has no chance of succeeding? Why has the audible not been an option? So just now they are adding this in...gradually? What/who is the problem?

Rivera said in a presser a few weeks ago that they give cam a "double-call" and that its up to cam to decide the better play based on defense. So yes, they gave him a whopping 2 different calls in the huddle.

the more freedom he has to be himself on the field, the more empowered he'll feel and the more he'll be able to be his regular dynamic self.

he's a playmaker. when allowed he can make things happen. don't put that guy in a box anymore. make it simple with a lot of options and just trust him and we'll have that star we drafted, that dynamic offense we saw last year, and more wins.

Does anyone really doubt Cam's throws when he has time to sit in the pocket? I'm convinced he is still the same player he just needs more support from the rest of the team. Throwing deep with a terrible run game isn't going to work.

I'm praying Cam and Lafell can end the season on a high note. He looked for Lafell more off the audibles.

I sincerely believe some of his struggles and picks at the first of the year came when he was trying to force the ball to Steve. We may not have another dominant receiver yet, but we do have some capable ones to help.

yep. i'm not sure if the focus on smitty has been b/c of cam or chud, but cam hasn't been spreading the ball around like last year and like he could have this year. it's been far too focused on smitty.

I was screaming this at the TV during the game when they did that. They have done this before. I just dont get it. I think this offense and Cam is better when he is under center.

yep

i dont understand how chuds brain works, if somethings working he changes.. if the read option isnt working he sticks with it for 3 quarters..

good example would be the broncos game, we started good on our first scoring drive, then comes chud with the lame duck spread option based scheme till the last 5 mins of the game -_-

It was the eagles. Yes Cam played well but it was the Eagles...you know the team without a true DC.

To my mind, Newton's accuracy should be more the concern. When that open slant is there, he has got to hit it...not miss two yards high.

Against a better team, interception by safety.

Cam tends to be a little streaky. I counted 4 bad passes in the 1st half, then he was pretty much on target the rest of the game. Keep in mind though that all QB's miss passes. It's not something unique to Cam.

yeah lets not forget the we just played the eagles. their defense was the reason cam was being patient, making good decisions, calling audibles, and using proper footwoork..

bad throws happen.. not his first and not his last.. get over it

Lot easier to be patient when its not the Giants or Broncos defense.

I'm not bashing Cam.

I'm just saying until he learns to beat the blitz of a good defensive team when it matters, he has not arrived and let's not crown him for arriving for beating a team that for all intent and purposes has quit for the year.

For the Record, I'm a Newton fan, but, his accuracy is not good and must improve for him and this team to move forward.

how badly he missed lafell on that slant is about the only real blemish on his game against philadelphia. maybe that screen to stewart that he overshot by just a hair too. it was well designed and caught the eagles in an all out blitz. stewart was all alone with several blockers and lots of empty space in front of him.

he has to learn to stick that throw, though. those slants are so vital in a two minute offense.
