According to the Stats, Our Offensive Line Sucks

Recommended Posts

After looking at some stats, it looks like the Carolina Panthers offensive line ranks 31st in the league in run blocking. 3.45 yd/carry. They get stuffed 24% of the time which is 30th in the league.

1.04 yd/carry getting to the 2nd level which is 23rd in the league, and .46 yd/carry in the open field which is 28th. This was before yesterdays game.

So the stats should spiral upward.

Jordan Gross side of the line is ranked 31st in the league and Byron Bells side is ranked 28th. However, Byron Bell himself is ranked 16th overall.

Over center position is ranked 28th overall.

These aren't good numbers and they should be corrected if the Panthers plan on making a playoff run next year.

I want to add that we are ranked bottom in the league in rushes at 244 and the leading team which is Houston has 415. If Deangelo needs carries to get going this isn't the way with the way this team is going.

Now is Chud a genius and is Rivera showing his knowledge with x's and o's?

Pass protection ranks 23rd!

------- 2011 ------

Last year the offensive line ranked 5th overall in run blocking and 21st in pass protection.

Rookie at LG.

Hangartner, then a revolving door at RG.

Hangartner, our worst starter, replaced an All Pro C.

I wonder why we struggle.

Replace GH and I think we'll be fine.

Cam has helped their cause with his scrambling lately. Most QB's would be getting killed back there right now.

Every line has had problems this year but I will admit the line is starting to gel since they have been playing with each other for the past weeks longer than any line this year.

However, this problem needs to be worked out. I want a nt for the first pick if he is best available but now I am leaning more towards an olineman to keep Cam from getting injured.

i'd be really interested in seeing these stats adjusted at the end of the season for the first eight games versus the last eight games. i bet the difference would be astounding in spite of losing kalil.

Good to see our observations that Gross is straight garbage is not an overreaction or witch hunt of the highest paid OL. We need to upgrade LT and RG bad.

I was at the game and didn't pay much attention to the OLine, but how did Byers look at C?

Philly, I will have to look that up but the offense was ranked 19 when Kalil was there against Seattle and last week against Atlanta they were ranked 11th.

I'm going back and rewatching several games. I just got done with Chicago where Gross was pretty solid. Watching Dallas now.

I think Gross is overpaid, but not a liability.

RG has been an issue all year long.

I don't know what's wrong with Gross. There was one play yesterday when the Chargers sent extra men on our left side. In spite of the extra targets, Gross ended up blocking no one. Debate all you want about his abilities, but I've never seen that kind of total and complete whiff from him.

Could he really be aging that quickly or is something else going on? It's very puzzling to me.
