Looking at getting a new game after Christmas and Far Cry 3 has me intrigued. I haven't played the previous 2, so I don't know much about them, but reviews seem great. Anybody out there recommend it, how much gameplay is there, etc.? Thanks in advance.

My buddy brought in the PC version to work yesterday (and his 360 controller) and we messed around on it. I didn't know much about it, but after messing with it all day it's pretty cool. It's open world, lots of side quests, and even gathering (like Red Dead lol). Most people have loved it so I don't think you'd make a bad choice, and I don't see it being a quick play unless you skip everything (like all open world games). I never played the first 2 either but from what I can see, it's a whole different story line.

Yeah I've heard the comparisons to Red Dead which I liked, so I'm hoping this is more of the same in some ways. Thanks.

It is the best story I have every played, everything works well together. It took me 26 hours to complete without messing around.

Good news. Are the side missions enjoyable or pointless?

Not as good as Red Dead, but it's still a pretty good game. It's basically an open world FPS with some RPG elements (crafting, character development with perks).

The side missions are pretty repetitive. They are fun the first few times, but can get old...depending on the player of course.Good news. Are the side missions enjoyable or pointless?
