talking about lombardi being "sure" that rivera was going to be fired made me think of this that i just saw tweeted a little while ago...

Lombardi was "convinced" in April '11 Mallett would go top-20. RT @GregABedard Lombardi in CLE puts Ryan Mallett trade back on front burner

having the browns trade for the overrated ryan mallett would be the great equalizer. just when you think they might be moving away from the traditional sucky cleveland brown way....they up and trade for mallett. that would just be hilarious.

That, or someone else will have that title.

I suspect they'll still hire a GM. Power structure will be interesting, especially with Chudzinski involved.

Too many cooks...

Going from having Cam Newton as your QB to having Ryan Mallett would be a hellacious adjustment.

Mallett looked so slow pre-draft that I doubted he could avoid my pass rush.

Chud would be going from having a race horse at QB to a statue. Actually, it might force him to be a bit more balanced.

Didn't mean to step on your comment. I type slowly on my phone.

Insert "great minds" comment here.

No issue. It's a good comparison.

Mallett would need to have a pretty quick release because he's definitely not that elusive.

Couple of QB coaches hired...

Chargers bring Frank Reich over from Arizona. Bears get Matt Cavanaugh, long time coach whose latest pupil was Mark Sanchez (Ian Rapoport says the press release announcing his hire leaves that part out)

Jay Cutler threw a hissy fit when Denver dumped QB Coach Jeremy Bates. Now Chicago has dumped him too.

Other interesting QB speculation: Would Jacksonville trade for Matt Flynn?

Lombardi will soldify Cleveland's mediocrity for the next 5 years even if Chud brought in the '85 Bears defense and the '00 Rams offense.

More than a few guys who have failed their way out of NFL jobs have used the "media rehab" route to repair their reputations.

After a couple of years of listening to them as commentators people forget their prior poor performances and think "You know what? We need that guy running our team."

The next successful candidate from the program will probably be Jon Gruden. Heck, maybe down the road you'll hear someone say "you know that Matt Millen guy sounds pretty smart. Maybe he just needs another chance."

With Arians off to the desert, there might be a Luck-Pep Hamilton reunion in the works

yep.

mortreport

Pep Hamilton, who is Stanford's "Andrew Luck Director of Offense," is a leading candidate to become Luck's new OC for Colts

of course it is mort...who has a tendency to be one of the biggest poo flingers in the business.

makes sense, tho. be wise to have someone with whom luck has had a lot of history with to be his OC.
