Student Suspended for Refusing to Wear RFID Tracker Loses Lawsuit

Big retail stores are trying to put these chips in all clothing, shoes etc we buy. It's starting slow so people won't really take notice but soon enough it will be like big brother 1984.

RFID is cool tech but its actually pretty limited for tracking things. United Colors of Benneton tried using it in their stores, UPS tried to use it to do away with scanning bar codes, and numerous hospitals have tried implementing it for everything from food delivery to medication and patient tracking. What they all found is that in ideal conditions the systems worked perfectly but the chips and readers wear not omnidirectional (orientation of the chip in relation to the sensor has a significant impact on reliability) and that range is a real issue.

Point being, I wouldn't worry too much about them being able to track students outside of the school. At least not without significant cooperation of the students.
