Verse 9: "If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or mother, and his blood will be on his own head."

Verse 10: "If a man commits adultery with another man's wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death."

Verse 11: "If a man sleeps with his father's wife, he has dishonored his father. Both the man and the woman must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Verse 13: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

This is why you're a hypocrite. You ignore hundreds of other laws in Leviticus, but you put that one on tshirts and wear it around like a fuging human thumb.

Stop burdening people with a yoke of slavery.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. (Galatians 5:18).

right, but the point is people use that verse in leviticus all the time to justify their views while simultaneously listening to sermons about how were are no longer under the law but under grace

anyway the entire point here is that it's ridiculous to try to mandate religious law over america especially when it comes to doctrines and beliefs that are already highly contested within the religion itself. anyone who's studied the church's long history of taking silly positions on human rights issues over the past two thousand years should be able to see the wisdom in taking a laissez faire approach to legislating these sorts of things

Debates concerning the finer points of Christianity are nothing but a smokescreen. People focus on the issue of homosexuality (instead of the equally damning sins of adultery, divorce, and hate) because it is convenient. It doesn't actually matter what the Bible says. People can and will twist the Bible to suit their own ends (people and pastors did this when slavery was legal; and the catholic church was strangely silent when Hitler was killing Jews left and right). Humans seem to be in love with the "them vs us" dynamic and any other dynamic that allows for the justifiable bullying of a segment of the population.

i brought this up multiple times during the amendment one fiasco and caught a lot of flak for making people feel uncomfortable with the fact that they were willing to legislate banning teh gays from getting married but realized they would never actively campaign to end legal divorce since the baptist church demographically has the highest divorce rate in the country

to me there is nothing more contrary to the goal of educating someone than declaring them unworthy of attention and companionship because of their belief systems when the one thing that may save them is exposure to outside thoughts and alternative belief systems.
