There's no indication he was ever in any mix except for loose speculation.

Until somebody is hired he is as much in the mix as anyone else

Word that new Bear Head Coach Marc Trestman has officially released some of the coaches from Lovie Smith's staff. That list includes Mike Tice and runningback coach Tim Spencer.

If Spencer is the guy Rivera had in mind to take over the RB coaching, he's now free to go after him.

No word on Bob Babich, but he's well liked in Chicago so it'd be no shock if they kept him.

Official word from Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times. Bob Babich won't be retained in Chicago.

Would love to see him here.

Rivera tried to hire Babich when he first got the Panthers job, but he stayed in Chicago.

His son is on staff as a second level defensive assistant.(not listed on the coaching page).

It'd be a natural pickup. And imagine for a moment what the guy who's been coaching Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs since 2004 could do with Luke Kuechly.

hmm. Jeremy Bates.
That wouldn't be the worst QBs coach.

Backfilling for Shula? Not sure how much I like that side of it.

Shocked he was let go. Didn't Cutler throw a fit when Denver didn't keep him?

yeah, he did.

I don't know that Shula's the best option - Hue is, IMO - but if both are on staff, that'd be neat. Bates, same thing.

Word conveyed by our resident Charger fan that Babich may get the DC job in Jacksonville :(

I do not understand why we have not made one single move to fill the roles on our coaching staff.

They've interviewed at least five different coaches (three potential OCs, two possible ST coaches). And some would suggest the next WR coach is already on staff. Might be others we don't know about.

Gotta remember, especially here, that just because nothing's being reported doesn't mean nothing's happening.

With only has 4 winning seasons out of 17, I'd like to see a little more initiative than this to improve ourselves.

Honestly, it's not uncommon to hear little or nothing about position coach interviews. And that's around the league, not just here.

Interviews for offensive and defensive coordinators, sometimes special teams coaches, and obviously head coaches, those all get attention.

With position coaches, one day you'll just up and see a note that says "team hires Coach X" without you ever having known they were in town.

Sometimes not pulling the trigger on quality people when they are out there, is also a major sign for ineptitude. And with 4 winning seasons out of 17 with this organization, I see a lot of ineptitude.
