Pretty sure Chud called the play... Although Rivera should've stepped up and said "Chud you're going full retard" I still blame Ol' Chud
Chud doesn't make the call to punt. That's all on the Head Coach. Had Ron decided to go for it, it would have then been up to Chud to decide what play to run.

Good point...Surprise, Surprise another Grantland article bashing the Panthers. The worst coaching decision this year was John Fox deciding to stay conservative (in a playoff game) and run the ball on 3rd and 7 to ice the game against the Ravens. You've got Peyton Manning as your QB and you run the ball to ice the game?!?!? Everyone knew it was coming, it's John fugn Fox.

That's a good description sir.. Now I know what he looks like

conservative call at the worst possible time. you give the other team an opportunity to win/tie rather than you finding a way to keep the ball and the win.
it's making the mistake of trusting your defense to protect the lead in an era that heavily favors the deep pass. it's dumb.
if this was the only time that rivera made calls like this last year, i'd consider it an abberation, but it wasn't.

The issue is that our defense wasn't firing on all cylinders early in the season. Even though we dropped them near their goal line, I had a sneaking suspicion that they were going to roar right back. If I was coach, I probably would have gone for it because the offense had more going for them than the defense at that point of the season...which shows how much of a crappy team we were early on.
IMO, Rivera has done worse than the Naka-fail. The pillowy soft coverage against the Bears in the final minutes annoyed me more. I probably would have lost my mind if I watched the last Tampa Bay game. The game against the Chiefs was inexcusable. And so on...

The Huddle has turned into nothing more than a bitch and whine circle jerk with most if you.
No legit discussion.....just one thread after another bitching and moaning.

The Saints game at home too.
When i watched the Falcons game I was elated when we pinned them inside the one yard line. I don't fault him for not going for it honestly. There is a time and place for conservatism.
