there are a number of post-literate societies globally that deserve a voice. i think it's a dangerous precedent to deny them that right (and denying someone a vote based on ultimately arbitrary educational parameters in general scares me, even though i fully understand [and quite often lean towards] the sentiment that idiots should not be allowed to vote.)

My point is, how can you know who you are voting for if you can't read the name on the ballot.

since we're having an honest conversation here, what makes the second opinion valid and the first opinion invalid

yeah it appears as though those who have been systematically oppressed and/or have lived their lives in poverty seem to gravitate to the party that at least attempts to give the impression that it actually gives a poo. imagine that!

i agree. the democratic party for the most part promotes the same free market laissez faire bullshit that only encourages social stratification. while their stances on things like gay marriage aren't entirely abhorrent (unlike the republicans), much of what they promote is the same old failed neoliberal garbage. that being said, i can't fault poor people and minorities for voting for some glimmer of hope rather than the alternative, the republican party, which at this point is essentially the party of white nationalism.

no argument here. the only thing i would say tho is maybe just once vote outside of your ongoing bloc(poor) and see what happens.

hence my ongoing frustration with either side telling people exactly what they want to hear to get a vote then disappear behind their admin asst and email.

that argument only works when a vote outside of the two major parties counts, and a vote outside of the two major parties will never really count until we see serious electoral reform. until then, rather than vote outside of the party, the best course of action is to vote for better candidates in primaries.

same here. if each state did it and based on the results, it would shut up one side or the other and then what would they have to talk about? their god would now be gone and they may have to actually focus on more productive things. imagine the horror.
