the South ruined HipHop..

I hate when folks say this. Especially when there's good southern hip hop out there.
But anyways, my personal favs, are:
Big Krit
Tito Lopez
Phonte/Little Brother
Big Boi/Outkast(he just dropped a decent album..a tad bit experimental, but I liked it)

Not sure how old you are and how far back you've gone but here's some of my fav's (mostly their early 90's and eary 00's). This is from a guy that could care less about 90% of the rap to come out in the past 10 years, but loves a ton of the stuff from the 10 years before that. Some of the rappers I list are still going today but their best work has been out for years.

Groups.
The Lox(Jadakiss and Styles did some nice solo albums as well)
Bone
Outkast
Mobb Deep
Fugees
Wutang(9 deep of former solo artist that all did good work on their own)
G-unit( 50 and his boys...of these young buck and llyod banks had the best solo albums)
3 6 mafia(this is just catchy rap that appeals to you the most when your intoxicated)
Solo Artist(parenthesese includes some of their best artist on their label)
Jay-z-memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel
Pac(Outlawz)
Nas
Eminem
Dmx
Snoop
Dre
Big
50 Cent( Get rich or die trying album)
Game (first 2 ablums only)
Jeezy(first 2 albums)
Some old "no limit" poo, this includes Master P,Soulja Slim, Mystikal,Juvenille, etc.
Ja rule(venna vetta vicci album only, then he started getting all poppy after that and sucked).

Also, nobody has mentioned Lupe yet, and I think his originality and political awareness garners him a nomination.

The Cool and Food & Liquor are two of the best albums of the 2000's.

Lasers was a label pushed letdown, but it still has a few gems (All Black Everything, Words I Never Said)

Food & Liquor II was very solid too, but it almost felt like the politics were too pushed and apparent.

None the less, he's brilliant.

One of my favorite verses on F&L II...

As archaeologists dig in the deserts of the east
A pit a hundred meters wide and a hundred meters deep
They discover ancient cars on even older streets
And a city well preserved and most likely at its peak
A culture so advanced, and by condition of the teeth
They can tell that they were civil, not barbaric in the least
A society at peace. With liberty and justice for all
Neatly carved in what seems to be a wall
They would doubt that there was any starvation at all
That they pretty much had the poverty problem all solved
From the sheer amount of paper, most likely used for trade
Everything's so organized. They had to be well behaved
Assumed they had clean energy, little to no enemies
Very honest leaders with overwhelming sympathies
Religions kinda complex, kinda hard to figure out
And this must be the temple
This White House

And a few Cudi bars. Just throwing stuff on here while listening to music now.

I know it's easy to imagine, but it's easier to just do
See, if you can't do what you imagine
Then what is imagination to you?
Just a waste of space in your brain
To take the place of hate or things all the same

How can any self respecting hip hop fan not mention this PIONEER!

Posted Image

but seriously Tribe Called Quest, EPMD, the Pharcyde, Outkast, Kid Cudi, Eric B and Rakim..heck I even like X Clan, Public Enemy and NWA but I feel so old naming groups that are really old school.

And the south didn't kill rap. White kids in the suburbs who buy the albums ruined hip hop. Consumer demands. Consumer gets.

UGK
Outkast
Pastor Troy
Scarface
Geto Boys
8 ball and MJG
Goodie Mobb
Nappy Roots
2 live crew
Dirty
Some old 3 6 poo.

That's a hell of a list right there. You've got some good taste, dude. I forgot about Nappy Roots...one of my favorite groups as well. I might take a ride to Charlotte today listening and just vibe to some of these artists. My road rage will be too high if I play some P Troy or old 3 6 haha.

Edit: and another rapper I left off my fav rappers list is Freddie Gibbs.
