I know you think this makes you sound really cool and above it, but it actually makes you look like you have no ear for music at all if you can't differentiate between distinctly different songs.

I've been a musician all my life, young'un. Elementary school to middle school to high school, to college and beyond.
I have some bands that I love that I readily admit most of their music sounds alike (note that I never said EXACTLY alike).
Bands and musicians of musical styles that I do *not* like sound even more alike. Yes, your own ear always displays your personal preference. I guess you never noticed that.
Know another style of crap music that I think all sounds alike these days? All of the modern day "country" (and its not really country, its crap) music and musicians. Horrible.
Music pretty much died in the 1980s. Rallied a bit at the end of the 1980's and early 1990's with rap and grunge. And then promptly died again.
RIP music.
