The US should be doing everything we can to foster this new revolution.

The CIA is doing plenty of work in idirect ways but mostly it's in the peoples hands. I listened to an interview on the radio about it a while back but I can't remember most of the details.

Yeah, it is weird. It seems like only the French know how to help in a Revolution!

Despite some people's belief, the CIA is not omnipotent. They can't just create a revolution anytime they want to. All they can do is provide assistance in areas that are ripe for upheaval.

It seems every time we support a ME country, it backfires on us. In defense (see Afghanistan against USSR) or war (see Iraq v Iran), we step on our dicks in the long run.

Yes, but it stretches our dicks and impresses the lady folk.

Afghanistan is far more complicated than that. We didn't create the Taliban or Al Qaeda. Its likely they would have existed even without our putting funds into afghanistan.

And imo, the collapse of the Soviet Union (a mortal threat to the US) was important enough that I wouldn't change a thing in that regard even knowing what I know now.

Do you think the collapse of the USSR should be credited to Jimmy Carter for his incredibly bold move to boycott the 1980 Olympics?

    • Interesting...thanks.   It will be someone I will watch and see where he goes.
    • Let's review for a moment... USA #1 in heath care costs USA #36 in health care outcomes Regardless of this reality, some here continue to be bamboozled by big pharma, big insurance and their political hand puppets, the GOP.   Meanwhile the rest of the civilized world continues to pay significantly less for their healthcare and experience better health outcomes (longer lives).  The rest of the civilized world does not having to deal with financially crushing premiums, co-pays and the accompanied fear that a serious illness will wipe out their life savings or worse... force families into bankruptcy... simply so their child may live to see another day.
