At least Hornets can be scary.

Pelicans make me think of Nigel from Finding Nemo.

Yeah the Pelican is not exactly natures top predator or anything. It basically boils down to a bird that has tremendous deep throating skills.

Okay kids, here's the scoop: The Brown Pelican is the state bird of Louisiana. In fact the Pelican is on their state flag.

i remember reading about a problem they were having in arizona somewhere a few years back they were having with pelicans diving into the ground and killing themsleves. i guess they saw the refraction on the ground and thought it was water. i always felt bad for them and at the same time couldn't help thinking "what a dumb bird".

Pretty sure that was the Boise State field. Thought it was seagulls though.

Understandable. Doesn't really make them more intimidating, though.

True. But "Saints" never struck fear in the hearts of opposing teams either. LOL

you've got to understand public perception instead of having to explain something.

when have pelicans been considered majestic or heroic? not any time that i can remember and i'm in my 40s.

when have they been consdered dangerous to anything but fish and themselves? none that i can remember either.

how are they usually cast? cartoonish. clumsy. comedic. that's pretty much the way that team is going to be viewed.

with the exception of a handful of years in their 40+ year existence they've been a joke and not taken seriously.

i have a feeling they are heading back that direction.
