so here's the plan guys.....

1) we sit around and talk about  tough smitty is and ck everyone who mentions the idea that he is getting older and could break down

2) we talk about the lack of respect that guys like lafell get  and talk about future possible studs like antonio bryant hoping that they are the next victor cruz

3) we don't draft anyone in the first round unless they are as good as aj green and megatron because it's dumb to not get a sure thing WR in the first. i mean it's ok if it's me other position, but WR they have to be megatron good, and no, it doesn't matter that you have a mid first round pick and guys that good only come around every 5 years or so and rarely make it much past the first 5 picks

4) wait until the next year to do something instead of try something now because now is never a good time

5) get more of everything else because everything else will help cam in the passing game more than a guy who actually catches the ball

6) championship

sound like a good plan?

me too.

Yep, people must not have heard of Hakeem Nicks, Roddy White, Vincent Jackson, ect. You can find great recievers in the late first round, second round, ect.

I laughed when i saw people saying we couldn't get a good wide reciever by picking from the latter half of the first round.  I'm going to be shocked and very upset if we don't pick a WR in the first two rounds next year.

the WR talk baffles me....

Only draft WRs that are projected like AJ Green....the others are too big of a gamble.  Tons of #1 WRs come from the 2nd and 3rd rounds and didn't project like Green.  Many have projected like Green and stink.

We need talent.  Cam is entering his 3rd year and we have drafted no one....and added just Olsen.  Trying to pimp 1 yr bandaids or gimmick roleplayers as building around him is comical.

and this has been my issue with this team and fanbase for a while. most teams build around there young QB (old QBs too) but the panthers. this team really cannot keep ignoring the position if it wants to be successful.

They met with 10 or more WR before the draft who were available during this draft. I would think they saw/know/found out things that made them stay away. It's like you guys would rather have any WR no matter what over a more talented player at another position. Really, what good would it be drafting a WR who wouldn't win a starting job over the players on the roster now?

We drafted 5 wr's in the previous 3 drafts, but yeah we totally should have taken a late round flyer on some guy in the middle of our draft board.

Yep. I still think the way the draft progressed a WR in the first two rounds was not BPA.

1st Round: Star - No wide receiver in this draft was better than Star as a football player. Some could argue Tavon, but he was already gone

2nd Round. Kawann- Now lets look at the list of WR who I think could challenge our selection in the second round.

--Justin Hunter (gone)

--Cordarrelle Patterson (gone)

--DeAndre Hopkins (gone)

Those are the only 3 recievers I would have wanted over the Kawann pick, arguably.

The rest of the WR class

--Keenan Allen, Terrence Williams, Quinton Patton, Robert Woods, Kenny Stills, Stedman Bailey, Ryan Swope.

I would like to hear from people why they would rather have taken any of these players in the 2nd over KK.  KK was viewed as the top Pass rushing DT from this draft, arguably.  After you get passed those top 4 recievers (Hunter, Austin, Patterson, Hopkins) would you rather pick one of the top Pass Rushing DT's in the draft or one of these WR left.

If we had a 3rd, I think we pull the trigger on one of these guys, but we didn't. After Keenan was gone in the 3rd, I knew we wouldn't be picking a WR in this draft.

The homerism on this board is out of hand. Everything that article said is 100% true and what I've been preaching. We have a Lamborghini in cam newton and putting hubcaps on him

Read above and try and answer my question. I'm just curious what you would have done in the same situation.

I'm just waiting for the excuses next year.

there are no perfect options. there is no one guaranteed to take the starting gig over smitty or lafell or whoever so we just wait until the perfect one comes along and miraculously falls into our laps.

and never mind that we don't hold that standard to any other position. wr is the only position you have to absolutely get it perfect  and not waste a first or second unless they are  guaranteed to be as good as smitty.

What is interesting is I doubt there is a soul on the planet (besides Gettleman) who said to themselves:

"Now that we drafted Lotulelei, I really hope we get another DT in the second round."

Yet now everyone thinks it was a great pick.

Given that Star by himself gives us one of the best lines in the NFL and is described as an every-down tackle, there is no reason that we couldn't have picked Swearinger or taken a chance on a WR. Maybe the talent just wasn't there.

and Mike Wallace, Steve Smith, Greg Jennings, etc.

This years draft class lacked talent at wide receiver. Gettle worked most of them out and must have not liked what he saw, but the fact he worked out ten or more says he plans to address that position. Next years receiver class is great and we could have a potentially elite receiver in the first or second round.
