Historically, the Panthers have not drafted well with WR.  Other than #89, and #87....the Panthers really have not had much success drafting WR.  And #89 was drafted in the 3rd as a PR/KR not as a WR by Seifart.  I don't think the Panthers had a clue what they were getting with that 3rd round pick.

It's not like they have not tried to correct the WR situation...they have just been very bad at it.

They drafted Colbert 2(62) in 2004, Jarrett 2 (45) in 2007, Robinson 4 (118) in 2007, and all were busts.  And then they tried again in 2010 with LaFell 3 (78), Edwards 3 (89), and Gettis 6 (198) with only limited success as a whole group.  They gave it a half-hearted try again in 2011 with Pilares 5 (132), and 2012 with Adams 4 (104).  Other than LaFell (with only limited success) nobody has really done anything at this point.  The jury is still out on Adams, Gettis, and Pilares but I would say this is the make or break year for those guys.  Someone needs to step up this year if they want to be in the NFL next year.

Everytime I see a reference to ESPN Insider I'm amazed they actually manage to sell that content.

Hopefully the OP hacked the site and got it for free because Insider doesn't have anything you couldn't find on a variety of free sites (starting with the Huddle, for example).

Funny how me and a few others have been preaching this since before the draft and now EVERYONE outside of the Panthers organization is saying the same thing.

some of us have been saying this for years. did the same thing about getting a real QB with a future rather than one that was just likeable and that you'd like to grill out with.

I wonder how people would have reacted if we went Eifert at 14 and kawann at 44.

You think people are in meltdown mode now? The boards would have been offline for awhile lol.

Last 15 years...first two rounds.

Grand total of 2 2nd rounders. I wouldn't call that investing in the position

Lets see here. Our average yards per completion put us at third in the league behind the Redskins and the 49ers at 8 yards per completion. Our average yards per game was 16th at 230 yards per game but honestly another 10 yards per game or 1 extra completion would have made us 11th.  Not bad for a bunch of scrubs, has beens, and never wases.

yep, sad but true. this team has avoided taking a WR for far to long. now you put yourself in the situation where you have to take one early next year.

We've known for quite some time that we would be taking a WR early this year or next.

Pissing and moaning about what never was with Hurney isn't going to get us anywhere. Let the past be.

I think that all of us would like to brush this off. I want to be optimistic. I want Ginn, Hixon and Lafell to break out, even though when I think about it there is no reason to believe that any one of them will. I want to believe that Gettis, Adams or Bryant will be the surprise of the league---at least the division or team, but that is probably too much out of the scope of reality when I really think about it. I want to be positive and/or blissful.  Then you have articles like this that very much dampen the mood.  It's like coming off a high with your pretty hot chick, only to realize that she is just a plain Jane (or maybe a little worse).

yes, you went all the way there dude... too funny... I was thinking, cut everybody below average! no need in playing with it. potential and hope don't win game. skill and success does. our WR deserve to get trashed minus Lafell, Hixon, and maybe Ginn. But they may deserve that to if they don't show up. i wonder who is on the WR market now that doesn't require oil and new plugs and hasn't ran over 100k mile inner city.

Just because one person makes a statement and everyone else repeats it hardly makes it correct.  We were third in yards per completion and 10 yards short of the top 10 in average yards per game.  What is the problem?  We have to replace Smith??  Hardly news and it wasn't going to happen this year.  Gettleman is saving cash and straightening things out. I suspect he has a plan to replace Smith just like he did to fix the D line this year. In 2010 Richardson gutted the team and in 3 years we  have done a pretty good job of retooling the team.   Replacing Smith, given he is still on the team and productive, was needed eventually not right away. I figure next year is about right.

LT, CB, S will all be spots that a high pick can be justified next year....may not be able to take a WR high. Gross seems to be on his fairwell tour.

Ypc....

Is that a compliment to our WRs or a product of our scheme and QB?

We couldnt move the ball in the 05 playoff game against seattle because all we had was smitty. I love smitty more than any Panther but he needs someone on the other side of him.

also no goings or foster. And a tired/injured defense.

• Joe AdamsArmanti Edwards and Kealoha Pilares, who have a combined eight catches in six NFL seasons.

The Panthers did nothing to address this position in the draft.

Armanti has 5 catches on 9 targets for 121 yards. BUT NO Joe Adams is a LOCK and Kealoha has a cool name.

Yeah I know it's not even decent but out of those 3 everyone seems to think Adams is a lock.
